    Deuce GVWR ??

The state doesnt care if you can really carry that much they just want to charge you for it. You can over register a truck in Md too. State will gladly accept the payment even though overloaded per GVWR. Interestingly, In md historic is listed as N/A on registration weight, although if you used...

    Deuce Shifting Questions

I think he means NOT to double clutch, He's right on the clutch brake, we've replaced many over the years from drivers doing just what he said. When asked, they didnt even know it had a clutch brake:whistle:

    Paint for the 5 ton

I have used Rapco paints twice now, and I like it. Used in gallons with spray gun and bought spray cans for touch up or small parts. Matches great. And they have any color you want from WW2 up.

M35A2 - What are the mechanical weakest links?

I agree with Gimpy, I would rather be able to stop than go[thumbzup] So I'd pull all the wheels check brakes, pack bearings etc.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Saturday, pulled all 4 rear duals, packed bearings and checked brakes. Found all 4 inner wheel seals damaged. Who ever put this thing back together kinda hard on seals. this week so far, have removed and sandblasted stone guard, and cut front lip off hood. The only rusted through spot on the...

    Deuce Shifting Questions

Good for you on the practice. You'll get the hang of it. Somebody mentioned it, but if you will put in another gear, say 2nd, then put in first will probably work much better without double clutching.

Red flashing light nstead of the buzzer?

EMR - That is true how everyone likes there trucks a certain way, and its interesting too. I for one like mine stock, Just like as if it came out of the motor pool. Thats how I remember them. But others are neat with big tires, air ride seats and crew cabs.

M818 - New front inner wheel seals, with pics...

Thats the coolest part of having that truck...Your dad enjoying it with you. I bet after doing that kinda of work for years he really enjoys working on it with you, mostly becuase he doesnt have to. Makes a big difference in how much you enjoy doing something if you dont have to. I own both our...

    Deuce Shifting Questions

I agree with you mcmullag, I would rather keep full or mostly full. Especially seems like spring and fall things tend to sweat. Had to fill up the M813 after brought home from GL, was almost empty. If I remember right was $260, phew that hurt. BUt easier on the wallet to keep it ful for sure.

    Deuce Shifting Questions

Same thing here, where I work we buy all allisons now. Not many can drive a manual transmission it seems anymore. But we dont replace clutchs, broke axle shafts or 2 speed rear motors anymore either. Not sure on backing up double and triples. I would say your definately a truck driver...

    Deuce Shifting Questions

Well if I'm about to crush and smash its going in any gear I can get it in that will help it stop before carnage. As far as red line, I agree most trucks and equipment are designed and make the most HP at a rated RPM, which may not be exactely red line as you stated. having said that, It doesnt...

    Deuce Shifting Questions

Your right lugging is not good on any engine, But i dont need to look at the tach to tell if its lugging, and I bet you dont really need to look at it either, I bet you can tell by the sound/feel as well, try it sometime, dont look at tach.. I doubt there is a trucker out there that really...

    Leaking Deuce

I like spray nine degreaser, or plain old spray nine. Washs off easy with water and will clean up oil/fuel spots. Spray it all down and hose off. works good. then after the next trip, check it out again for leaks.

    Deuce Shifting Questions

I dont watch the tach, you can tell by just how fast your going and hear the engine, I never get anywhere near redline...just never run it that hard as I'm never in a hurry driving it. More like crusing around. Joy riding!!

Long Term Storage Stability of Bio-Blended Diesel B5 B10

They were newer trucks, well..2002-2005 [its been a couple years ago now]We replaced them with factory tanks, and switched to B10, havent had any problems since. Inside the tank it looked like a coating came off, almost like a paint. Interesting this happened all in one of our districts. All the...

    Deuce Shifting Questions

Good info. Well I've learned something again, I didnt know they recommened "not" downshifting. I guess they put that in the operators manual because some kid will go from 5th to 2nd. I do down shift sometimes, but drive it like a truck, never pick a gear where the rpms would be out of range, so...

M818 - New front inner wheel seals, with pics...

My 813 was same way, tons of new parts and all the bleeders opened easy as the wheel cylinders were new. I changed my boots and noticed one side grease was just a little bit more "wet" than the other...I'm thinking its going to need an axle seal as well. But dumb me, pulled it apart just inside...
