    Land Rover, 1/2 ton, Airportable.

Loaded for the car show tomorrow . Had to use the flat rack I made for the M916A1's fifth wheel as the fairgrounds entrance for MV's is too small for the M870A1 trailer.

It's a compensation dissorder for the lack of level wind obviously.

    Canadian M35 Roof Rack

A few of the Australian M816 (not sure about previous M 543 trucks) had local made roof racks.

Simp's M816 Bringing back from the dead thread

How have I not commented on this thread before... "Honey, call the chaps in the white coats, I'm going senile!" Depressed by the pics of the wrecker on the M870 - I was hoping to have room to put my S250 camping shelter on the back of the trailer WITH my 816 on the bed - looks like I'll have to...

    Wrecker bed modification

Nope, nope, nope... OSHA stuff is not exciting there big fella. I want to see rocket launchers, hydraulic claws, tuckaway half track convertion, secret microwave beams.....

    M916A1 vs dead tree

All in all, this worked out really well. There was no uncontrolled crashing down of a cut tree. The roots put up a fight all the way to the ground, never once falling faster than the winch pulled it. Even increasing the resistance at the end when we tried to up root the whole thing - pulling...

    M916A1 vs dead tree

Wifey was actually operating winch for the main pull, didn't want to video as close as I wanted the shot!.. but she stopped when back of truck got dragged to the edge fo the bank. so for future heavier pulls, I am going to somehow add a little ground reaction device. M984E1 spades. I am...

    M916A1 vs dead tree

Lots of snapping of the dried out roots.. ... and down she came. No interferance to barn - really no foundation of any substance to be compromised by roots, hence the settleing!

    M916A1 vs dead tree

Pulling slack but heavy cable, down towards the tree. Winch cable to a 5/8" snatch block, with a 5/8" compensating cable bridle and to two large continuous slings chokered on to tree. The snatch block allows the two points of attachment on the tree, to stay under even load as the angles change...

    M916A1 vs dead tree

The plan being to pull the tree away from barn, by a snatch block redirect down to a split pull on the dead tree. Rather than pulling it towards the only place I could get the truck, risking the tree drifting towards the back side of the barn. Initial setup of the compensating bridle.

    M916A1 vs dead tree

So, in order to fix the hops barn (my workshop) as in, jack it up, push the walls back out and give it a real foundation, that dead tree (red arrow) needed to go. Ran out about 110' of cable (7/8" dia) in a straight line with atv, then looped end back so I could get it up to the change...

    Australian Trucks and dust

Pretty cool. Got a mate down there looking to get a Mack wrecker! Quick question for you - Yellow 'D's on Aussie Jerry cans - do you know how big they are? I have a bunch to put on the RAEME version I am buiding of an M816.

    The danger of modifying trailers

Thanks for sharing, as Rory says, it takes a big man... I had a 1061, wanted to do the mod that you did, but sold it before I ever got around to the mod. (Found an 870A1 to go behind my 916A1).. My thoughts would have been to move the axles back to put the deck+tail/2 point jst infront of the...

Then of course there is self help when one gets stuck and an ARV isn't in the neighbourhood. Tow bar at the ready.

916a1 no power in the cab

Also there are two single 25A fuse holders next to the frame, above the battery box that protect the ECM, will turn over but won't fire if these are dead.

Welcome to the neighbourhood! I am 3 miles up the road from Dougco1. There is a reasonably healthy group affiliated with MVPA that holds events in the Capital district and around. Hope to see you on the road.
