While I am a little shocked at the selling price of this deuce (especially with the buyers premium factored in), I totally agree with the philosophy. Working on the vehicles is not my main focus in this hobby. While I do enjoy wrenching, I also want to enjoy driving the trucks. That's why I...
RE: Re: Lost by a more aggressive bidder
I've been thinking about it and have not been able to come up with anything myself, for the very reasons you mentioned. I can shoot holes in every scenario I can come up with. Some are safer than others and I guess you just have to put some faith in the...
RE: Re: Lost by a more aggressive bidder
A valiant effort. Even though I was not involved and it might be Monday morning quarter-backing, I will say I was a little surprised at the discussion of exactly what the bid per unit was going to be. Armor towbars are one thing, but CUCV starters have a...
There has been a drought of them lately, so prices are through the roof. The last one I saw went for about the same. Mine includes 1987 and I paid about $50 for it several years back. There was a glut a while back when one came up every 1-2 weeks and they got down to around $40 or so. It is a...
If I recall, the third stage is only partly a manual operation. I believe there are either specific struts or you use the rear support legs and attach them to points from the 3rd stage to the outer boom after you extend the second stage. Unlock the 3rd stage and then retract the second stage...
There is at least one other M1028A1 on this forum that I know of, but they are rare. I have been looking for one for a while. One of these days, I hope to get it as nice as my old M1028A3 from my avatar. I really need to post a few pics of it, but she's been a little neglected lately... :(
I never said they were in sync. I was merely pointing out that the civilian system sends +12V to the light, while the military version provides a ground for the +12V coming from the light. It does this, as you point out, on some sort of timed schedule.
It's only a hybrid in the sense...
Civilian trucks supply 12V from the output of the GP relay to the light. The light only lights when the GP's are on because the light is grounded. In the military version, the card grounds the signal coming through the light to light it. So, a relay is used to ground the light (turn it on) only...
I only own 1 house and it has A/C, so I can't speak to that argument, but $24K won't get me an outhouse on an acre anymore, so that is really kinda moot. The mid-80's Chevy's aren't any wonderful example of automotive engineering, and replacing the parts that nobody makes anymore isn't as cheap...
I'm not so sure about them being worth it because otherwise they would be cheaper part, but they are good looking trucks. With that said, he is selling the trucks, so they are worth it to some people. The red and white dually is really more correct with the exception of the paint, so it's worth...
Yeah, planning bid suppression schemes in the first place (much less on a public forum) is not wise. Especially when it involves Government property. The Justice Department has convicted plenty of folks in the past. The Sherman Act allows for maximum fine of $1,000,000 (yes, million! )...
Mis-spelling in a mis-spelling thread? How ironic! :) I actually thought it was intentional until I read the follow-up...
The one i like is the truck with a wench... I have yet to see her in any of the pictures, but GL has sold lots of trucks with wenches over the years. They don't say if...
