New member/1009 owner! Tranny problem/random questions

Re: RE: New member/1009 owner! Tranny problem/random questio Normal driving will be miserable with vacuum leaks, but the TH400 will shift without vacuum (and almost bark the tires if you wind them up enough), because the governor will make it shift at higher RPM. In fact, you can leave the...

The madness, Trying to get running.

And don't touch it to the frame/engine/etc either, cause it will cause one h-e-c-k of a show. Only touch it to the studs. It'll only spark a little...

    M1008 transmission possesed

Re: RE: Re: RE: M1008 transmission possesed Doh! Governor, Yes. I called it a "regulator" in my last post, but the governor is what I was referring to. Unplug the vacuum and the governor will control the shifts. Maybe it is sticking or maybe it was swapped from something else with...

Aftermarket glow plugs and the 24V start

Re: RE: Aftermarket glow plugs and the 24V start Well, they are "6V" plugs, but they are supposed to be used in 12V systems (wierd, huh?), like a civilian truck. Now, the amperage draw of the 60G's may be much higher than the 13G's or 070's? In that case, the voltage through the resistor will...

Aftermarket glow plugs and the 24V start

The AC60G was developed as a non-swelling plug for use in 6.2 and 6.5's by GM to replace the 11G, which replaced the 9G's in civilian use. The 60G's are, from what I recall, technically a 6-volt plug, whereas the 070's are probably a 12V plug (?), but they will work in a functioning CUCV system...

Aftermarket glow plugs and the 24V start

Other failures notwithstanding, plugs should last for many years. As they age in the elements, they do tend to increase their resistance, which means less starting ability, but several years out of a set is very achievable...

Would have liked to have seen this ebay auction end.

I think there have been a few up before. I believe Jason is right. They seem to be from dealers who ordered them for some reason.

    M1008 transmission possesed

RE: Re: RE: M1008 transmission possesed You can download the TM from this site (-20, page 3-64). On the left side at the bottom, follow the Technical Manuals link. The gauge block is somewhere around .6" thick (I have the number somewhere around here), but whatever finger turned sideways is...

    M1008 transmission possesed

Rotate the Vacuum valve on the side of the IP ( what you are calling TPS? ) as far counter clockwise as it will go. This will lower the shift point as low as it will accept. Then, adjust it from there.

    Starting

The starter should turn over with 23.5 volts for sure. You could always try to jump the solenoid with a screw-driver to see if it will kick out at all. That's always my favorite spark show to try.... :)

    m-1010 charging system

Hmmm. The DUVAC is the larger, front-most unit. The other part is the external regulator. Are we talking about the big or small box? Either way, you can probably still use the regulator to control the existing alternator. The regulator is designed to accept 2 different input voltages and not let...

Not happy with the new purchase so far.

Man, that is tough luck. Alfa should make good on some of these items. A side note on the engine compartments. I have never seen a CUCV or other Chevy truck from this era that was factory undercoated over the entire firewall (even my 1987 M1028A3 didn't have this and it was Ziebarted when new)...

    Insuring a CUCV

The "8" is "Chevy Truck - Multipurpose vehicle", so that's totally normal for the Blazer/Suburban line. I've never seen one (civilian or otherwise) that did not have an "8"...

    Insuring a CUCV

The only difference between civilian and military is the "D" in the 5th position, instead of a "K". The "D" was a GM designation used for "Military Truck 4x4". Tell them to look it up in a Hollander manual or any owners manual of similar year. The VIN breakdown is right in the front of even...

    m-1010 charging system

This mod is exactly what the wire switching does, except you use the Leece-Neville alternator as a dedicated 12V supply, instead of using a regular Delco alternator. Much less work. How exactly did you "fry" the DUVAC doing the "wire switch thing"??? I assume you mean you switched the front and...

    CUCV Starter GB CLOSED

Those are the later gear reduction 6.5 type that Parramore and others offer. In fact, I think this is Parramore. The GB was for the factory style, from what I remember...
