This thread reminded me of the first time I changed the oil in a deuce. I had a 5 gallon bucket under the front of the oil pan and the bucket had a lid with a 2" hole in it, in which I had neatly balanced a funnel with about a 1/2" opening at the bottom. I slid the bucket under the plug and...
RE: Who makes a Jacobs-type engine brake for the 250 Cummins
Jacobs offers several different products, but the original "Jake brake" is a product that opens the exhaust valve early to release the compression energy. It mounts on the heads, under the valve covers. You can buy one and add it to...
That list looks like the one that was compiled by a memeber of the mil-veh list several years ago. I'm not so sure it proves anything about the existence of a M933. The M933 is mentioned in a couple of the -24 TM's, but that is more than likely an editing oversight, as it refers to M933/A1/A2...
The wiring diagram shows what is called a "tach buffer module" in the diagnostic circuit. It gets a signal from the "R" output, which should be the same as the "W" output. If I remember, it is marked on the case. What the signal from the "buffer module" looks like is another question, but the...
RE: Re: RE: M816 vs M819 Wrecker
I take that back. It is mentioned in a few of the PDF's I have, but there is no specific information. I'm guessing it was planned but not made? Even the data plate above has no weights or payload data on it.... :?
RE: Re: RE: M816 vs M819 Wrecker
I am very curious about this. I had never seen a M933 data plate and there is no mention of it in the current manuals. I wonder if it was actually produced? That would be a cool truck. Does anyone have an early M939 manual that shows anything about it???
Yeah, forgot slow too.
On the tranny, I suppose some of the later released trucks may have had the Williams exhaust brake, which supposedly helps with the shifting, since it helps slow the big Cummins down quickly between gears. Although, if you are not pulling a load and really revving it...
I'm sure someone will chime in who owns one, but the main drawbacks are:
1) 9.5 feet wide (overwidth - need permit just to drive it on any road)
2) non-synchro tranny designed for the powerband of the gas motor (very hard to shift up much less down. Several guys will tell you they start in 2nd...
Try switching the wires. The wiring update was a voltage sensing fix that didn't really fix the problem. Even without the wiring update, it might work. It has a been a while since I messed with this system, so I would have to research it again to make sure, but switching the wires on the DUVAC...
The diode is keeping 24V from feeding back to the 12V fuse block, but having no diode will prevent feedback as well. I think that wire was supposed to give the DUVAC unit power, but they didn't work properly anyway, so I don't think you will have a problem without it.
If you don't care about...
The valve to adjust the shift points is on the passenger side of the IP. Rotate the top toward the front of the truck to increase shift points or rearward to lower.
RE: Re: RE: Where to find a Detroit Locker for 5 tons
Find a residue truck with lockers at a dealer like John Winslow and get a price on the center section.
Don't read too much into that manual... M44A3 is the series designation for the A3 PIP trucks, not a specific model. There are only M35A3, M35A3C and M36A3's. There is no other variant. I was referring to the specific truck on GL listed as "M44A3 Cargo Truck".
That's the "new improved" M35A2. Cat power, automatic transmission, single tires, CTIS and ugly front end... Not many parts available for them. And if it's the one on GL with the axles sitting in the bed, it's bound to be missing some rare parts.
I forgot that the older 5-tonss only had 10.26's in the M139C (I think?) chassis. That is impressive with 6.44's. Those old gassers have a lot of low end torque and the gearbox is designed for their powerband, so I guess it should surprise anyone, but it always does (including me).
