To update this list. T-minus 7 Days and counting
Edit 06/27/2016: Updated the TODO list for the items completed below.
Edit 06/29/2016: Door weather stripping installed
What didn't quite go as planned:
First, I had bought six u-bolts (3 per rear leg) so that all the cab holes were filled, and just a little bit more support per leg. I judged by the scratches on the back of the cab that the military's previous gun ring installation could make use of all 3...
And the most exciting part:
The actual gun ring install! With much thanks to red, red's wrecker, and my brother for the time spent helping me make this possible! (and especially my dear mother, who's come to visit for three, soon to be four, weekends in a row to help me while I work on this big...
I took a couple days off from work and got a lot accomplished but also ran into a few issues too. The tinted sliding glass windows look awesome, but are too tight in the window channel. You can slide the windows, but it takes way too much force. I'm thinking of (yet again), undoing the bolts on...
Is the "short" air pack *exactly* a direct bolt-in replacement for the "long" style?
I've read through a number of threads, Gimpy's exhibits what I'm talking about:

I'm just wanting positive confirmation that a...
I took a couple days off work to, hopefully hammer out this project and have some help re-assembling it when red and some of my family are over.
Today I finished the top (minus the side door window weather stripping and turret opening cover). Here's a before and after:
And the back...
Be very careful with the insulation. It'll even stick to the back side of its own backing plastic and will only tear itself coming off (you know, if while peeling it off, the backing plastic gets folded back on itself).
I just screwed up big like a moron. I should have cut it out in straight...
Waaaaay cool!
I've always wanted one, but with bigger tires, more ground clearance and suspension travel...
Much work ahead for ya, but you knew that. I hope to see your very detailed restoration thread soon --- or it begin in this one!
I've heard of the following from a couple fellows M939's on Facebook (Theirs were woodland camo CARC):
Pressure wash
Spray WD40 over the entire truck and let cure for 24 hours or so
Then pressure wash again.
Supposedly this leaves a nice, fresh, darker looking paint job. I have never seen it...
The insulation is certainly a different beast to work with when compared to the sound deadener. It comes in a large roll that is just slightly wider than the sheets of butyl and is a bit odd that the adhesive backing doesn't quite run to either edge (there's 1/4" - 3/8" foam without adhesive on...
Also over the weekend, The Iron Works had finished the small modifications to the USGI pins for my cheaper Israeli M1919 cradle. The front, larger pin was machined down from 9/16" (0.5625") to 0.53" so it'd fit through the 1919 (mine appears to have some sort of sleeve/insert in the front...
Sorry for the lack of clarity. My intent is to use the same thing on the outside as I'm putting on the inside with only two differences:
Double layer of insulation (who knows, the inside may get this too if I like it enough!) (no, I don't see any problem with seeing the gray insulation on the...
Thanks!
Yes, my intent is for the exterior side (towards the drivetrain). I don't do any water fording and the water it will see is rarely from rain/road splash. The insulation I'm using does not absorb water and is good up to 212 degrees F.:
Noico Liner 157 Mil 37.5 Sqft Car Heat Insulation...
Thank you! I'm not as skilled a some, but try to make up for it in effort and time. I hope it'll be ready! I've reached the critical point where I just need to work at it. Every-day. 14 days counting tonight.
Ambitious TODO list:
Bleed brakes & test air-pack rebuild & NOS master cylinder
Get...
Over my three day weekend I was able to scrape off the glue from the old insulation, vacuum, wash with soapy water then primer and paint. I opted for the primer coat on the whole back because the corner reinforcements that were welded to the top edge of the cab (pictured earlier) needed primer...
The Emergency connection has air pressure at all times and the Service connection only when the brakes are applied. Remember, both of them still have an in-line valve you have to ensure is open/closed as needed. (I.E: you don't want to drive around with the Emergency valve open if you're not...
When there's much to do, I tend to jump around a bit depending on my available time (especially on week nights). This part caught me by surprise because I don't recall anyone ever mentioning doing this when installing their cab reinforcement plate. Step 'F' in the installation instructions...
HAH! I hear ya there!
However, the hard top was sprayed with Rapco enamel paint, and wasn't powder coated. The powder coat parts look just a little pale compared to the Rapco. I still think they'll all look fantastic together.
