I hummed and hawed around for a bit as to where on the 3rd leg to attach the last ammo can tray since the leg didn't have any pre-made holes. I settled on attaching the ammo tray to the very end so that it is as more easily reached by someone standing in the turret.
I like to use magnets...
Welcome from a fellow deuce owner! It's heartwarming to read about your deuce. I hope you're able to make all the modifications to it that you'd like. Please start a thread and post even the littlest of things you do (and wherever you travel to!) so that we can read, follow, and enjoy!
I have not had any business dealings with them, so please keep that in mind. Also, I'm not here to bash a business, it's not my intent, but I think interested parties should be aware of honest observations from independent sources.
Over the course of a few years, I have seen multiple...
Thanks brianp454!
I have not worked on this issue since these posts last year. Recently though, I've had this air dryer on my mind. I'm still not sure what the problem is, but I bet it is something that I have or have not done. But I need to look for that square o-ring rustystud mentions above...
Second ammo can tray is in place. I suppose if I had made the angle brackets a little longer I could have attached to the 3rd, lowest hole in the support plate. I'll see how this tray rides with vibration, but as of right now, it's super solid.
(Note: the colors here are really washed out...
Thanks Mr. G.
I know my spindles, nuts, and bearings are fine - as I serviced and inspected all the axle ends 1 year ago (hey if anything, I may be running a little too tight as they're a bit warm after driving, but certainly not so hot that I can't keep my hand in place on the hub). And I've...
I can appreciate just how much work this is! Incredible. But you even did the floor and doors, all while installed! I had the luxury of doing the hard top while off the truck - which has got to be so much easier than what you just went through.
Before prime and paint, I used a wire wheel to clean up all 3 pairs of brackets. They looked excellent!
I mounted the first ammo can tonight though! I tell ya, it not only fit good and looks good, but it feels good too. ;)
(sorry for the glaring overhead lights, it was, again, late)
In the...
Maybe this is helpful too:
I purchased the hub seals from Oshkosh (~$65 for 2, shipped. A bit steep IMO).
They were a good, tight fit, and appeared almost identical to what I pulled out.
What I pulled out:
Cage: 19207
P/N: 7411429
NSN: 5330-00-741-1429
One has to remove the seal...
Maybe you have better torque bar ends than I? Mine do not look cracked at all, but I haven't done that crow bar test on them to verify... or maybe living in the middle of town like I do, I have a lot more hard corners to make to maneuver my deuce around? :P
For the bearing nut lock washers:
Cage: 19207
Part Number: 7411378
NSN: 5310-00-741-1378
Inside diameter measures ~2.65" (obviously meant to go over the 2-5/8" (2.625") spindle for the M105A2 model).
The only place I found them is eBay. Just search for "19207-7411378". The first picture is...
Here's a fun picture showing the clearance of the whole truck and gun ring on my 10' garage door entrance. The backrest is actually the highest part of the truck when there's no gun/cradle! My truck is a little higher than stock as it has 43.7" Goodyear G177 11.00-20 tires.
I haven't yet...
I needed to fix a failed keyway seal on the driver's side middle axle, and got a good look at the rubbing that's still taking place there. It has probably been a few hundred miles since I last looked.
As I said, the driver's side middle axle is still rubbing. It didn't appear that the driver's...
I put on the brass deflector. I wish it was a brass catcher as I don't want the brass banging all over the truck as it falls down... but I guess it'd at least keep hot brass from falling into the cab.
I purchased it as a complete set from BMGParts.com, though it's disappointing that the metal...
Speaking of ammo can tray brackets, here's my current progress. I mostly used the pair of photos provided to me by 98G (back here in post #34) as my reference.
My front gun ring leg is a bit annoying as the right-most mounting holes are so far to the end that they're actually closer together...
Well, God was willing, I made it to the 4th of July parade! At 8pm on July 3rd I had to replace a leaking copper crush washer on the banjo bolt on the brake line into the new, expensive air pack. Really, you'd think the parts suppliers would sell these washers at the same time they sell the air...
The reinforcement plate kind of gets in the way of the driver's seat belt. Not sure what can be done about it. It's going to scratch some on the plate as the seat travels up and down.
Sadly, I cannot leave the gun cradle on the truck, unless I want to damage it, truck and/or garage.
