The length of the soft line is not important... the barb which its installed on, on the metering pumps, rotates. This rotation is what allows fuel to be pumped upwards. If they are not both fueling at the same amount, it can cause running issues. In actuallity its not the barb that rotates, but...
What you photographed are the metering pumps, not the injectors. If you follow the hard fuel lines up to the top of the engine, the injectors are the items which you plumbed the return line short sections off of (with the barbs).

The engine in this platform is strong enough to support 15+KW... its the electronics which limit it. The gauges on the machine are calibrated at a power factor of .8. If you assume a PF of 1.0, the amperage data on the rear of the machine works out to 12.5KW @ 100%.

You are right, its a normally open contact switch. Been a few years since I have had to swap one out. Its one item that rarely goes bad, but does happen.
