When working around older vehicles like this it pays to listen to the "old farts". They learned a lot of things the hard way and had to pay the price for it. Its not just about us and our vehicles, because it could affect our children, friends etc etc.
Welcome from Colorado. Also recommend the article from David Doyle posted above by PorkysPlace. If nothing else it is a very good reading for general info.
Has any more tractor to cargo bed conversions been done by anyone? I like the idea of using the 5th wheel to mount a bed. Anyone have any experience to share?
Welcome from Colorado Nick. Its a grand adventure that will provide many fond memories and tax your skill set and mental attitude at times. In the end a better person with lots of stories to share!

Just a suggestion, but if you post your old camo trailer cover on our classified forums it may help offset the cost to buy a new one of the color you choose. Plus I imagine a number of people here would like to have a camo cover as they do eventually need replacing.
By the way, good photograph documentation, like the tagging you did when disconnecting and your work list on the cardboard tags you nailed up. all good work routines.
I hope you don't mind me asking this, but what is your project goal? total rebuild from frame up? fix the oil issue? partial restore? You seem to be looking for something in your tear down process. We might be able to help.
