Here is some more on my ride. for comfort, I changed the seats to modern MV because a drive to our local big lake takes four hours. Since I use only two batteries, I cut down the battery box and stock passenger seat.
The camper in the nomination picture is completely independent of the truck...
I put 395”s on MRAP wheels on my deuce. They have bead locks. The truck off-roads excellent, at least in sand and rocky terrain. I air down to 20 - 30 psi, depending on the terrain and load. A locker in one or both rear axles would be nice but I have yet to get the truck stuck. I do have years...
I'll throw one of mine into the fray. it is a 1986 data-plated M934. it served (last anyway) at FT. Bliss TX. The Army put a 20 foot dropside bed on it, I have been told to haul support loads for patriot missle units on McGregor Range. On the back is a 1971, 17 foot, HiLo camping trailer.
Check out part number WVE 1S3300 on Rockauto. It is a 3 speed heater switch with off, complete with resistor. It says it is for 12 volts but should work fine on 24 volts. Less than 13 bucks.
I also started out with 395s on stock wheels but had similar problems. I settled on map wheels with adapter plates. I now have the beads locked so airing down to near nothing is no problem. My spare is still on a stock wheel.
Some people may rarely, if ever air down much and that would work...
The result is what I think is one of the most versatile MV-based camper around. I am not tied to a purpose-built expedition rig. I can still use the truck without the camper for cargo, heavy off-roading, or troop-carrying. I can drive to a camping location and drop the camper to cruise around...
I can take the trailer from ground level to about 6 inches above the truck bed, by myself, in about one hour. if you look closely at the pictures, there are two different mounts for the jacks to the trailer. Changing the two mounting points is what takes the bulk of that time. This difference is...
I was gifted a 1971 Hilo travel trailer. These trailers reduce vertically to cut down on wind resistance while moving down the road, as well as in storage. The box is 17 ft. long with the trailer length being 20 ft. The overall width of the box is 7ft. 4 inch. Guess what else measures 7' 4"...
I purchased this 5 ton at a scrap yard near my home many years ago. It was in fantastic shape, had low miles and was decently priced. it is data plated as an M934 and has the air intake snorkel for that model. However, it has a 20 ft. dropside bed installed prior to GL auction. The bumper...
A product called RedGard waterproofing is used to coat a variety of substrates to make shower/tub bases and enclosures. It is specifically marketed for this application and is easy to use. It can then be top-coated with tile, frp, etc. Might serve your need.
What gives the red glow is the screw- on bulb covers. I saw where one member on here drilled holes in the threaded portion of the bulb covers, coinciding with the direction the light travels to each corresponding gauge. That is free except for a little bit of work.
I have used 3/8 x 20 for a2 wheels successfully. However, the 20 dimension is the problem. They really need to be 3/8 x 19.5. The 20 inch are commonly available. If they are too long, they push out of the way instead of rolling into position between the wheel halfs. I have been cutting and...

One of the purposes of the shims is to space the bed up away from the rivets that hold the crossmembers to the frame rails. That helps to lock the shim in place as well.
I am in the El Paso area. I have a tow bar and I have a friend here that may have a medium tow bar for sale.
There are some fairly long, steep grades in eastern AZ and NM. Have to watch your downhill speed.
I have a springer base, with new shock, and an MRAP troop seat. All that helped a lot. I attribute most of the improvement to the modern seat as the passenger side does not have the spring base and the ride off-road is not too shabby.
