Buying a Deuce: GL or Civilian?

I have purchased two Deuces, one from a private individual from here on the board & one from GP off the lot. The Deuce from the individual was driven 430 miles home & the Deuce from the GP lot had to be towed home due a non running condition. There was a big difference in the trucks as far as...

Chronicle of a tan M1101 trailer purchase from GovLiquidation.com

GP still has a few from time to time, but they are usually well used & not is pristine shape. I have seen them totally wrecked go for $500.00 for some odd reason. The older prices were the most affordable, just so much anymore. The GP yard here has dozens of M105 trailers, but no 1101 or 1102's...

Removing Troop Seats & Fold Down Sides On M-1081!

Pictures in the phone, will add them Monday. The unit is actually a mobile office unit shipped back to the US from Iraq, complete with the finest tan sand I have ever seen in the A/C. It belonged to the 3rd ID @ Fort Stewart. I am happy with it & the trip for that matter.

Removing Troop Seats & Fold Down Sides On M-1081!

I went out & checked the LMTV this morning. Everything was ready to go if I kicked off the large wooden crate except for operating correctly. After getting in the seat, I tried the power switch & click, it worked. I tried the starter & she started, prayers answered. A trip to the GP yard showed...

Removing Troop Seats & Fold Down Sides On M-1081!

The sides are aluminum, sorry for the misspeak, don't know what I was thinking. I swapped several of the relays with no change. I rocked all of them to make sure they had good connection & were firmly in place. As sore as I am, another attempt will be made this morning, but unless I get her...

Removing Troop Seats & Fold Down Sides On M-1081!

Thanks for the replys & coachgeo wins the award to remind me that I overthink stuff. The thread that was used for reference was how to install LMTV troop seats in a m105 trailer. Coachgeo referred me to the two bolts on the bed level that held the assembly to the truck. The center was rusted but...

Removing Troop Seats & Fold Down Sides On M-1081!

Tomorrow, I am tasked with picking up a mobile shop container from GP locally. In order to do so, the troop seats, fold down sides & 4 uprights need to be removed for loading the container (8 x 8 x 14) with a forklift. The fold down sides & tailgate have ss pins in them to keep from coming off...

    Airpak rebuild

I prefer Teflon tape. Mechanics I work with in a chemical plant use Teflon tape with rectorseal yellow pipe sealant on top of the Teflon. That may be a bit of an overkill for you on your truck & it is very messy!

    tent frame for#8340 00 7823 425

I have several of those tents in storage inside another tent of the same type. It has been setup for 4 years & a big hurricane a few years ago. Survived everything so far. The wooden frame is a good idea if you use PT wood & the center support is the bomb for getting more headroom inside the...

    Rifle mount kits

That Sir, are the pictures I have been waiting for for a long time. I have a few NIB rifle kits, but could never get a clear(picture)idea of the angled piece of brackets actual size & shape as how it relates to the entire setup. Now, I can go fab up a pair of them out of stainless steel flat bar...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

If it was not a compound corner, I would do the welding route. The other Deuce would go the weld route if I didn't have another top & rear section. Look @ this picture: The tan Deuce has the hole in the front left corner.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

I had a low tire on the M-1082 & my old 88 Hilux Toyota & couldn't get a tank or compressor near it, so what it a guy to do? Fire up the Deuce & after she warms up, back her into position to feed air off of the Emergency glad hand to all the low tires via a hose I made up years ago. While...

    1977 Deuce, cab removal?

More than a few members have done a cab off frame restoration, just google it here to find a few of them. Good luck with your new to you truck restoration, sounds like you have a large project in your future.

    fuel tank filler strainer removal

Par normal, the OP was talking about a 5 ton truck, not a Deuce or even a genset fuel tank. Since my M-1081 threads on & off easily, I could not imagine it being hard to remove. Again, ignore the original post. :o

    fuel tank filler strainer removal

Is this the inverted witches hat screen filter you speak of? The fuel cap comes off with a 1/4 turn & the inverted witches hat screen comes out of the tank till it stops. At that point, you turn the screen cartridge till the dimples line up & it then completely lifts free of the fuel tank. If I...

    Starter Button Bypass

The starter buttons on both of my Deuces have been changed by the military mechanics to the pushbutton type. One works real well & the other just so so. If you are going to change them out, make sure the replacement switch is 24vdc rated with at least 10-15 amp capacity & is momentary...

Proper military style knot for M101 cargo caver

You can also get it in a silicon rubber compound, but it is 3x the price & red only. A few years ago, it was offered in a different type of material for less than 2x the price of EPDM cord in a host of colors, but I guess they discontinued it. If you find that 5/16" is too big to get it to...
