I want to add to this, WHEN you have to pull the water pump for ANY REASON, use a good bit of GOOD anti-seize on the NEW gasket (ALWAYS REPLACE the WP gasket), other wise there is a VERY good chance that the copper gasket WILL GULL and LEAK when you adjust the belt over time.

By the way FTF stands for Five Ton Fixer
He states in post #3 that the shift rod is not moving in/out of the case, so either the shift rod if frozen, detents are frozen, or the synco is frozen, what ever is the issue is, it sounds like a inside the case issue, which leads me to...
Wrong, It is rated for the SWL being what is on the load charts, the military wreckers can easily be over loaded because of the duel use of the truck (recovery lift tow and crane use). ALL military cranes require a YEARLY CERITFACTION of the SWL (safe working load) at the SWR (safe working...
The sprag has NOTHING to do with SHIFTING between high and low, sounds like the shifting rod is froze if it WILL NOT move., in the HI environment, things rust real quick, take the linkage loose so you have just the shifting rod sticking out, PB BLAST the chit out of where it comes out of the...
Maybe we can get a MOD. to change the title of this thread to "SAFE CRANE OPERATION" this would be a better title as this thread is sorta branching out.
As far as working angle of straps, slings, ect. Anything UNDER 30 deg. is a NO NO, using the above 1000lbs, the load on the straps, ect...
Did you use the jake push rods, they are the same length, but THICKER, the stock will bend under heavy jakeing, the thicker push rods come with the jake kit, these ARE 24v solenoids that you are using, the reason I ask is that you state you only changed 1, the stock ones are 12v .
BEFORE you tare into your truck, remove the axle vent, make sure it is working, if not replace it or install a vent tube system, this vent is the NUMBER ONE cause of axle, transfer case leeks. If when you pull the vent and here air escaping, that will be a good chance the cause of your leak...
With the 5t wreckers where the boom only raises to 45 deg. this would be hard to do, though on a MAX + pick with the boom up all the way up, this could happen. So YES this is one more thing to think about when you are doing your lift plan BRFORE you do the lift.
Also some states REQUIRE a tarp that covers a loose load in the bed (anything OVER the rails need to be covered), mainly dumps, roll offs, ect. ANY truck, also make sure your bed, tail gate rails are clean, this is a ticket getter even if nothing falls of the truck.
I would not use those double adaptors for anything but VERY LITE applications, they are just not strong enough to keep from spreading under heavy load.
Want to thank everybody, the DAV was beyond happy,
Now for the question of the day, what is better then doing the parade with a bunch of neat people with BIG GREEN IRON as well as some little green iron, and a wheel chock,
Answer,
