I get what you are asking. ALL of the cylinders in the pics are machined....some are smooth, some have purpose made ridges machined into them. I have seen and used both types. As long as the surface is clean, the washer will seal as long as it is new. Used washers that were on a "grooved" finish...
Here's something I have not seen that it has been checked. The FSOV. If it has a broken link or not pulling up the correct distance....not enough OR too much.... The rack in the pump will not be able to go to full fuel, it will orient the dump slot in the wrong position and shunt the fuel away...

Check to see that there is no voltage at the shut off with the power off. If no power, could be a cracked plate in the shut off assembly, a failing coil, they will swell and keep the disc from completely sealing, or a plugged return. Symptoms of a plugged return are running on after shut down...

There are mechanical N14 engines, IIRC only up to 400 hp and they were STC. But still a good reliable engine. Same footprint as the SC/BC, slightly taller due to taller valve stems and the brake housings are thicker.
