MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Couldn't be happier with both of them. As for standards, my problem is that I always want my equipment to be as new.....functionally at least. Which is why that even though I have a fully serviceable volt meter I want to replace it with one that would have come in the machine, along with other...

    M802a enclosure

You guys have talked me out of worrying about it. If/when I have to dig into it I'll take a shot at it then. For now she's just fine.

    M802a enclosure

Nope, not a reset. 2009 build date with 600 hrs. I have a NOS one that's way off center too but not enough to hit when vibrating under load. Like I mentioned before I've seen pics and vids of sets where the alignment is way better than mine. So the question is can you move the engine/gen...

    M802a enclosure

On my 802a the exhaust pipe is not even close to being centered in the hole through the enclosure. It's so close to the edge of the hole that when under load the engine vibrates enough to nearly hit the side of the hole. Is there a way to better align the enclosure to the engine or vice versa...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Great advice Chainbreaker, and as a matter of fact I came to that very same conclusion myself last week. Adding up the cost of the spares I wanted to have on hand quickly got me into the $$ range of a 2nd running set to be used as backup. Light in the Dark hooked me up with a 600 hour unit...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

That's good to know but MTBF covers the entire system and the likely hood that any one of the many components will fail in that period of time. What I'm looking for is what are the parts that have proven over time, and a large sample size, to be the ones that will most likely fail. If you...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

The longest I've run on TAC (I assume this means Gen power) is 6 days. I would however shut down the generator at around midnight and fire up again around 6am. This was with a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel with a 7.5kw Marathon head. Which I still have and it's 100% maintained and ready. I just...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Question for those of you who worked with and on the 802/803 sets when they were current issue. (looking in your direction Guyfang) How reliable were these sets for the troops in the field? What types of issues took them out of service? Were there any weak spots or common problems? Were...

Which type of military units were issued 802a/803a gen sets

What types of military units would have been issued these generators? Were they powering radar / como / missile batteries or were they in the rear used primarily at forward bases / advance deployment scenarios? I was in an artillery unit and we had 1 portable 3kw unit that we never used except...

    Generator AUX fuel connections

FWIW I had an AUX hose made today at my local NAPA. It's a -5 JIC connector, the type used for hydraulic hoses on construction equipment. Same 37 deg. flare as on an AN. Had them attach the connector to 5ft of red 3/8 fuel line. Works 100% and cost 17 bucks. I have the original aux fuel...

    MEP803A Radiator hoses & Radiator

Sorry to hear that....the search continues. I think they only had 3 of one and 7 of the other when I found them. I noticed someone in another thread found them also.

    MEP-8xx series fuel pump

Just received my order for 2 fuel pumps. Glad to have them in the spares locker. Thanks again LITD. Now I'm looking for 2 of the filters that attach directly to the primary fuel pump. Has anybody been able to source these lately, or maybe somebody has a couple in their parts stash that they...

    Saving deeply discharged Optima 51R's

I'm throwing in the towel on these 2 Optima 51R batteries. They don't / won't hold a charge. I guess sitting idle for 8+ years didn't do them any good. Going to try a pair of Champion AGM 51R. 4 yr warranty and $50.00 off at Pep Boys.
