MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Guyfang, once again you have hit it out of the park!!!! This is perfect and represents a lot of work. Thank you!! I will be sure to verify, since this is specific to the 803, that the parts are in fact common to the 802. I suspect that most parts are common, but some will certainly be model...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Thank you Kurt, I have been using the method you've described..... was just hoping that there was a cross reference that I hadn't found.

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

I'm looking through the wiring diagrams, the -24P, etc and I can't find anywhere that directly cross references a component designation (K4) to a part number. I get the description from the wiring diagram like "overvoltage relay" but I can't translate that description to a part number. The...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Thank you Kurt. I received the 2 S14 trip switches yesterday. I will acquire a couple of the KUP-14D15-24 Potter & Brumfield relays and add them to the spares stash. You don't happen to know the function of each of them off the top of your head do you? Is their a supplier you'd recommend for...

MEP 802a/803a reliability in the field

Dusting off an old thread here and I've made good progress on this list of spares. My question is for Guyfang. What part are you referencing with item 2 of your list "plastic relay"? Is this the relay socket that the wires connect to and the relays plug in to? Thanks, -Craig

Source for #10-32 x 1/2 SS flange heads?

Check post #33 in this thread. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/mep-8xx-stainless-steel-screw-information.152944/page-2 I replaced all of the hardware, cage nuts included, with the hardware on this list. Pretty much identical to the original except SS. Cage nuts...

When to change water pump backing plate

Thanks Ray, yes that is the plate I'm talking about. I've got a spare but it sounds unlikely I'll ever need it.

When to change water pump backing plate

When changing the water pump on an 802 or 803, what do you look for to determine whether or not you need to change the backing plate? Thanks, -Craig

Green Panel Light Bulbs - found source for new

I found a source for replacement transparent green panel lights. They are very nearly identical. The new ones are slightly lighter than one of the existing bulbs from a 2009 build 802a. In the pic below the old bulb is on the left and the new one is on the right. CEC is the manufacturer and...

    Control Panel Light Bulbs

Clear bulbs= 6S6/30V Green bulbs= 6S6/30V-801 It's easy to find the clear but I still haven't found the green ones. Be careful of National Fuse.....their website lists the green bulbs, which they will sell you, only to ship clear. If you are able to locate a source for the green ones please...

    MPU Motional Transducer for MEP-802A/803A

LITD, Is Governors America the OE supplier of MPUs on the 802/803s? I'm thinking a couple of these would be a good addition to the spare parts stash. Thanks, -Craig

How do "lift" your 1200 lbs MEP803 without a forklift??

You have options: 1 Casters bolted directly to the skids 2 Build a wooden frame with casters (think big furniture dolly) 3 Roll it on pipes, need 3 You'll need a decent jack to lift one end at a time to place the suggestions above under the unit. In the case of the wooden frame with...

    My Mep-803a standby generator project

I went through the same process. In the end it proved cheaper to purchase another complete running set. If the primary set dies it takes 5 mins to fire up the second. I maintain them both to a high standard and still have spare parts. Down the road if some parts are no longer available or...

    Mep-803a high idle

Based on the high revs, smoke, and slow shutdown I'm wondering if your not sucking engine oil into the cylinder(s) somehow? Is it over full by any chance? Or a stuck open injector? When it starts it sounds like its only hitting on one cylinder then it runs away. No response to the governor...
