I perused the -34P TM. I found that the axle assemblies both front and rear carry different part numbers than the other M809-series models (the exception is a unique front axle assembly part number on M819 tractor/wrecker). What exactly the differences are, I am not certain. Differentials carry...
I decided to swap out the front General Grabbers with Bridgestone L315's; the tires I originally wanted but could not find early on. I could not find L315's in anything less than sets of four. I then found and ordered the L315's from a third party called OTR Tires and they actually shipped them...
27 8"x10" color glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us.
Put on some new General Grabber OA Wide Base 385/65R22.5 tires on 22.5 x 12.25 4.75" offset 5 hand-hole rims on the steers.
And finally installed my M939A2-series outboard brake drum upgrade.

And to top it off...
Fresh new General Grabber OA Wide Base 385/65R22.5 tires on steel 22.5 X 12.25 4.75" offset five hand-hole stud-piloted rims.
The rims had to be custom ordered. 5 hand-hole in this type are basically "unobtainium".
Here we go with an update! I finally tackled my front outboard brake drum job. Fair warning: I did not go cheap on this one though. I ended up using all M939A2 parts, including spindles, both spindle nuts and lock washer, inner and outer bearings, oil seal, hubs, wheel studs, brake spider...
My son and I are making an air tank setup for his Tacoma out of a 5-ton cargo truck splashguard. The splashguards, as heavy duty as they are, will act as support and protection.
It's going up under the bed where the spare tire used to be. We just need to design some hanger brackets for the frame.
The transfer pump is a smart move. I did the same mod.
I also replaced all my supply and return fuel lines from the left tank with AN fittings and braided nylon/stainless steel fuel hose.
Oh! No bueno!
As far as the rubber lines, I replaced mine with DOT push-to-connect brass fittings and 3/8" DOT nylon air brake tubing (SAE J844 Type B).
Possibly the poppet valve is leaking air into the transmission? That's the only air pressure supply plumbed anywhere near transmission. Disconnect and plug the air line to the valve and see if the leak stops.
I have a good used take-out shift lever from my old 6453. It includes the retainer but not the shift tower that bolts to the transmission cover. That's, unless you're planning to scrap the whole transmission. PM me if interested.
I had an out-of-state title. AAA verified my VIN. Easy-peasy! I filled out all prerequisite paperwork for Historic Plates. I took all the paperwork to a DMV proxy service that had a reputation for successfully registering and titling unusual vehicles. After verifying all my paperwork was in...
Yes. On the sprag (de-clutching) cylinder air pressure delivery is as follows...
-rear port = forward
-front port = reverse
The sprag cylinder will default to a neutral position if air pressure is completely removed from both forward and reverse sides. I used a Bendix TW-1 air control valve...
Thanks, Will! (y)
In those pics I had only dry fitted the bolts. I later tightened them down. I made sure to also spec out all the hardware I replaced on those mounts.
PTO Air Valve Plumbing:
Starting up the truck, I let the air build. I engaged the PTO valve to WIND and checked for smooth rotation. Opening the vent fitting above the bull gear on the winch, I could see the gear was rotating in the WIND direction. This verified the air plumbing from the valve...
