I had this problem and it ended up being the valve body. Rebuilt it and everything started working.
No, most likely the CTIS system is not working and you can figure that out later.
You can air the tires up like any other tire, there are valve stems. Holding air is another question.
Disconnect the CTIS controller. It doesn’t need to be plugged in for the vehicle to operate. If still having the problem start looking past the CTIS. Most likely a grounding or electrical problem. Mine had a loose wire on the starter solenoid.
That explains a lot.
Why she was slower to start and why there was more black smoke even after warming up.
I think the overall conclusion is:
Expect it to take longer to start, slight loss of power and not burning the fuel as efficiently causing e
No power loss? Yet! But just curious what starting it at higher altitudes will be like. Is it a concern or can I drive it to 20,000 feet with out concern?
I’m a flat lander from Florida driving an 2003 M1079A1 with a 3126B asking the question!
As I’m currently parked at 8,800 ft above sea level.
What is the maximum elevation our trucks can reliably start and operate?
What effect does elevation have on diesel engines?
Max elevation for the 3116...
Oh and why you see bolts on the middle frame attaching to the bottom frame is because mine started as a M1078 then purchased an older M1079 and swapped the middle and top frame.
Which had all the mounting points.
this how the built the 1079 model. Frame then another frame on top which puts that frame level with the transmission the habitat sub-frame on top. I’ll refer to them as bottom, middle and top frame. My fear is without the middle frame that it
would allow the bottom frame to flex accessibly...
Expensive in perspective, doing all the mechanical work my self everything I’ve invested into the core truck about $20,000 over a nine year period. Compared to a new ford 5,500….Cheap!
Just expect to invest money into it, if you’re going to keep it long term.
When I purchased mine it had all fluids drained and no batteries! Got it home and filled all the fluids out new batteries in it found a loose connection on the starter relay and she cranked up and ran. Not saying I haven’t had other issues but such as replacing the transmission and replacing the...
I’m looking for a crashed LMTV A1 to purchase for the same reason. Should have done this years ago. Never thought an alternator would cost more than a vehicle !!!
When I replaced the oil cooler gasket a few months ago I noticed my rear exhaust manifold had some soot around it after further inspection the back bolt or nut was loose. Tightened it and no more soot.
is yours soot that has gotten wet and give it that look?
Absolutely positive never engine swap or HEUI pump replacement. I purchased it with only 3,500 miles on it and personally picked it up from an Air Force base in Florida. I’ve been very intimate with the engine and pay close attention to any bolts or nuts that have had a wrench put on them….you...
My 2003 3126B has 37,000 miles on the original HEUI pump. I’m driving it daily as we are traveling the country in it for the next 2 years nonstop. Just treat the engine with respect. Regular maintenance fix all oil leaks and keep it clean to identify any new leaks. Oil and fuel filter changes...
We already purchased tickets for overland west in flag staff. Also applied for the DIY part of the show.
is that where you’re headed?
We won’t get to the north west this summer but will be there as we head up to Alaska next summer.
Looking good Chris.
We finally hit the road 5 weeks ago on our 2 year journey. Because we’ve already explored eastern us we head west to Texas our first big stop is here at Big Bend National Park. Beautiful park.
Search pael plugs on McMaster Carr website. Measure the hole diameter and put that in the filter. Not the cheapest route but that’s where I bought mine.
