Got it.
So assuming one or both batteries fail the load test at the auto parts store, what is everyone using as a replacement? I am sure the auto parts guys will try to tell me their off-the-shelf car ones will work just fine.
The military batteries are hard to come by and close to $600 each...
I ordered a can of electronics cleaner which says it can be used on motors and alternators, and the like.
I will remove the starter and give it a good cleaning and look for anything which might be obscured while it is on the car and covered in dirt.
There are a few places in town that say they...
Sorry for the late reply - long day.
I looked at the battery compartment - looks good to me. Terminals were tight. No signs anything melted or burnt. Insulation does not look melted. Batteries did not look like they were bulging but I did not remove them. Nothing exploded.
Plan is to try to...
Yes, the wait light and break light come on but dim out when i try start. The pop definitely coming below the passenger seat. My wife jumped!
The stater is caked in dirt. Probably the original one.
Plan is, if the tow truck ever shows, is to try and clean the starter as well as I can on the...
Folks,
Once again I need the assistance of the experts here. Was returning from a car show and stopped for diesel and I made the mistake of shutting off the engine.
When I attempted to restart we heard a huge pop! Sounded like maybe it came from the battery area under the passenger seat?
The...
Folks - thank you all for the help on this.
As sometimes for me, this turned out to be a comedy of errors that was not so funny. Turns out the positive red wire going to the battery directly I was using was defective, invisibly fraid, and although the VOM read 24V, there was just one strand of...
Ok, I have been staring at this for hours, and reran the resistance multiple times. I think the leads going into the wiper motor are as follows:
H - high speed +24V
L - Low speed +24
P - Unknown - seems always to be infinite to ground, leads #27 & #71 on all switch positions on both units...
I am wondering if I both the new and the old one are both defective!
I did some more tests. From the switch, there is a four wire connector that goes to the motors. I pulled the connector off the motor end on each, and measured the resistance from each lead to ground. There is a difference for...
Thank you both for your help.
I did a bit more testing and now see a difference between the old and new motor. On the old motor, #27 to ground stays infitite with the switch off. On the new motor the reading is 5.5 ohms with the switch off!?!?!?! I would have expected it to be infinite...
I have done electrical work on civi cars for 25 years, but I am stumped!
I voilated the cardnal rule - don't throw (expensive) parts and think it will fix things! Do''oh!
I got a new wiper motor and it behaves the same as the old one under all the same tests I ran. So now I am getting...
I'm interested in getting a set. I see some YouTube posts from others on his sets. I see Jeremy is on Facebook - but I refuse to use that junk. I found his business address, but no web site.
Any other way of contacting Jeremy to order a set ? Is he a member here?
Can someone please PM me his...
I know this modification is not for everyone, especially anyone that wants to keep their HMMWV stock or stealthy. But if you would like to have dome lights that do not need door switches, or are not just controlled by a simple switch to turn them on and off manually, this setup might be for you...
Yes, you were correct. The two input wires at the bottom connector are not what they appeared to be. The "ground" I found at the plug, #71 is for the washer motor and I thought it was a ground for the motor. There is a seperate external bolt for lead #57 that supplies the ground. No wonder I...
This just gets better and better.
So the motor I ordered, was supposed to look like my original:
But the one I received, is not what mine looks like:
So I emailed the vendor to send it back since that one I could get for half what they charged me and I don't want to have to drill new...
We have to be VERY careful.
I was also debating on what to do with my 30 year old mirrors that were is really terrible shape. After looking at new sets, and how expensive they were, and unsure if they were really poorly made, but expensive Chinese knock offs, I spent a lot of time refinishing...
The good news - it did have a clip and it was fairly easy to pull the clip off.
The bad news - the clip was rusted and disintegrated into a pile of rusty sand and the bushing was all but gone from ware.
Cost of replacement for the clip and bushing? $34
If I would have had some remains...
Thanks for the tips. I will first try the hammer and WD40 soak tricks before I order a new motor.
I did find the service manuals, and it says it is a "clip" that connects that eccentric arm to the wiper arm. Sure looks like a bolt on mine - something with threads, but perhaps I am wrong. Who...
