I wanted to give another update since today I finally was able to get the generator electrical hookup buttoned up. I had an electrician come out and do the hookup of integrating the new components into my existing DPDT manual transfer switch that was in use for a 30A standard portable generator...
That rear support leg really doesn't do much. I can stand on the back of my trailer (200lbs) and the front end doesn't even lift up at all... This is without the support leg down.
You could probably cut it down quite easily as well so it would be short enough to be functional with smaller tires.
On my truck I had the little diode in the water in fuel circuit that comes factory wrapped in duct tape short out on the engine in that same area. In my case it would not start. Might be worth a look.
In the TM the describe using the voltage adjustment pot as a source of variable resistance to test the gauge with. Its too detailed to describe here but the TM lays out everything you need to know.
its not hard to crank it with just a wrench on the crank pulley. If your belt is good you can probably get it most of the way around by turning the fan.
And of course there is the dead crank switch
A few more mods I did to my set this weekend. I got rid of the stock exhaust flapper and added on a 6" extension and rain cap. For now the generator stays in my garage so it is not really a worry of anything getting into the exhaust but I did want to modify it because when I pull the set out to...
I am a little confused... You said it has 120v on L1 and L3, Are you measuring this between either of those lugs and ground? Do you get 240v between L1 and L3?
I would probably first test the voltage regulator. Outlined on page 97-98 in TM 9-6115-642-24
Thanks for the idea, Just got back from the store and picked up my coupler, 6" nipple and rain cap.
FYI the rain cap size is 1-1/2" its the smallest one tractor supply has.
Grounding rod set for less than $30...

Wish I had a store like that locally I'd be in there for days!
I did think it was pretty silly that normal operating temp is already at the far end of the scale. Pretty useless as far as monitoring temp goes. Mine seems to always run at the spot right where the needle starts to touch the 2 of 240 but when I feel the hoses to the radiator they don't feel as...
The high temp shutdown switch is supposed to come on at 225 +/- 5 degrees. If you gauge was showing 240 might want to check and see what is not functioning properly or maybe the gauge is just off.
That trailer is the same setup as the one I have, The trailer has surge brakes and the lights will work with 12v (assuming they work) they just will not be quite as bright.
Bring an air pump. I bought my set locally and only had to tow it a few miles home but even though the tires both looked...
You will have to take the top cover off and disconnect the 12 wires from the generator that go to terminal block as they are not wired into a plug that could be disconnected.
Well I have to say hats off to those who said to CLEAN THE SWITCHES!! because... you were so right.
The other night I put half a can of Deoxit into the reconnection switch and the VM/AM switch and worked them back and fourth several times. Today I had time to load bank the generator again and...
Hmm, I was focusing more on the wires from the CT itself going through a bad contact not the load wiring. I do see what happens with poor contacts on a regular basis replacing contactors that have had their contacts burned up which then creates so much heat it melts the insulation right off the...
I have not had a lot of time to mess with It lately. I purchased a NOS current transformer off ebay just in-case since there was only one on there and for $30 shipped I figured what the heck. I got the top off the unit exposing the rear power box area and everything appears correct regarding the...
Spent some more time load banking it today and fiddling with the temp gauge. As it turns out I am a complete idiot. The gauge needle was just stuck in the left side of the housing. Once I did some more troubleshooting and could not find a fault I looked at it more closely and tried tapping it...
