The only way I know how to determine if your truck was originally a gun truck is to review pictures of all the trucks that are in the various Gun Truck books. James Lyle's three book and David Doyle’s books are probably your best bet. There is a couple three more books but the have very limited...
Great thread, add me to any new posts. One of these days I might tackle pulling the transmission from one of my M211’s. I suspect it’s locked up because all the drive shafts are disconnected and are hanging in place with cargo straps.
Now to find the time…
The helicopters I maintained are still inservice. I’d give my left one to be able to work on them again. The aircraft “forms binder” is still being used to track airframe maintenance issues, time change, calendar inspections, etc. Aircraft engines are also tracked for various mandatory tasks...
Just found this thread. Add my gun truck please. M35A2 War Wagon. It’s kinda both a replica and a tribute. The original War Wagon was with the 359th. My truck has a rather convoluted story behind it. My build is over in the Gun Truck folder.
My 1970 M35A2 War Wagon (pics below) has some very suspicious holes around the bed. I tell people they appear to be bullet holes. From the hole sizes, it’s going to be from a .30 caliber round.
Next time I go out to the barn I’ll snap some photos.
So far in Wyoming, my trucks can be registered/titled just like any other truck on the road. I chose to go with Pioneer tags because the only things I do with them is show them off in parades and outdoor displays. I hope and pray all these newcomers to the state mind their own business and leave...
I’ve found it to be almost a guarantee that my batteries will go kaput at the 3 1/2 to 4 year mark. It doesn’t seem to matter if they are use extensively or hardly used at all. I use Walmart batteries almost exclusively. I went with more expensive batteries from NAPA one time and they died...
The oval panel is from a UH-1’s tail boom. It’s one of three access panels on the belly. The other two items are from the lower center console of a UH-1. There are two map/technical order cases. The lower right one in the picture also has the center lower console electrical cover. The cover...
I understand. That’s one of the reasons I’ll probably never move back to CA. Parents left there when I was 3yo and except for a 3 1/2 year tour there in the Marine Corps, I haven’t been back.
Best of luck to you, hopefully you can create the truck you want without too much CA poofter.
I’ve never been a fan of bobbing but they are your trucks. You get to choose their fate. What other people think is just so much bad sushi. You don’t have them registered? Do you have their titles? That’s going to be tough to overcome. I’m not familiar with California DOT rules but you want to...
I was assigned to Air Force Space Command back then. We put together a squadron from geographically separate helicopter units and we went to Columbus AFB MS as our staging base. I went on our first days mission upon arrival and it was overwhelming to see all the destruction. Our missions were...
The Marine Corps doesn’t do much identifying of units. The numbers appear to be the truck’s bureau number or BuNo. Every vehicle, fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft have a BuNo. There’s possibly information on the bumpers. If they’re original, they may have identified the unit. If painted over...
