Thanks for the history lesson! I've heard many trucks from the northeast may have seen some combat in Vietnam.
Judging from the air cleaner on the passenger side fender, the truck looks like some flavor of M39A2.
So you don't need to be a Vermont resident to do this? For some reason I thought the Vermont DMV closed that loophole sometime ago. This is good news (y)
Soldier B may not be available, so I plan on enlisting the help of an engine crane. I saw a neat engine crane trick for beadlock removal, so that's another reason why I'll use one :)
Thank you for clarifying that! I did find one of your posts detailing what you did to get the 395 to fit in the stock location:

That sounds like more of a project than I'd like, so I'll...
If I can't get a 395/85R20 spare to fit there, I was thinking of trying to mount a 365/85R20 there instead, or even the standard-size 11.00x20 or 9.00x20. I just don't want to put a spare in the bed if possible.
Congratulations with your M35A3 purchase! Like you, I've compared the M35A3 with the FMTVs since they were manufactured at the same time. I like to think of them as "MTV Lite" since they can probably hold more than a LMTV with the third axle, but a little less than the MTV, and come with...
I love the sound my Cat exhaust makes when coasting to a stop. The turbo whine is great when accelerating and going up hills! And I can listen to it all safely without ear plugs
I also enjoy hearing the horn. Sounds a bit different from regular civilian truck horns!
I couldn't care...
I drained the fuel/water separator a second time, also with the truck running. The fuel came out in a higher-pressure stream this time. The fuel is still water-free, but there's still dirt coming out. Anyone know if this is because I need a new fuel filter because my current one is dirty, or...
Sorry it took me awhile to measure this, but my truck's tool box from the back of the driverside fender to the end of its door is about 31-1/16". From the pictures of A2s I've seen the toolboxes don't look any different.
I'm wondering if the modification you made to the spare tire holder...
The truck shop used a pipe wrench with cheater pipe to get the fill plug out, and then they welded a bolt to it. For the drain plug, they ground down a bolt to a square shape and pounded it into the rounded off hole (that bolt isn't coming out any time soon!).
The job cost me $200 - the...
I didn't realize that silicone grommets were made for the combat rims. Do you know where I can find them? I've only ever found the rubber ones from surplus vendors.
I wondered this as well when looking at the instructions to remove the front axle u-joint housing plugs to install a zerk in one. Like @rustystud said, they could get damaged either off-roading or during jacking.
I talked to my dad about this too, who experienced this on his M38A1 and M37...
Thank you for posting that! For some reason those views are absent from my M35A3 PDFs. It looks like I'll have to get gasket paper before I pull the covers.
I'm pretty sure the little valve stem grommets on my M35A3's rims are all shot. I've been planning on disassembling the wheels to clean the rims and replace the O-rings and the little grommets, but I have no doubt at some point that the grommet will fail again and I will have to take the rims...
I am greasing my truck and I'm about ready to tackle the rear spring seat bushings. This includes checking the torque of the trunnion nuts.
However, I'm having trouble finding the rear spring seat assembly in my TMs, especially an exploded view of the assembly. Can someone please share the...
I'm using a Legacy Workforce lever grease gun. I bought it for about $40 from Tractor Supply and I hate it! It won't use the grease cartridges because the rubber push seal is too wide to fit down the grease tube. I'm going to call the manufacturer to see if they can help me out. I checked...
