I'd try to get in touch with these guys: http://www.ny-pennmvcc.com/
What flavor of deuce are you looking at getting? An A3 will probably be an experience comparable to the FMTV. I've never driven an A2, but i have a feeling that it would drive like a bigger M37/Power Wagon.
Carrying in the bed within design limits is one thing, but towing a trailer close to exceeding the truck's towing limit when empty? I'd be worried about breaking the transmission! I'm assuming the AT1545 is the reason why the truck's towing capacity was derated to 6000 lbs. Otherwise I'd love...
That truck looks nice! Even has a winch :) I used to let my foot off the gas to force a shift to 4th, but i didn't like the truck slamming itself into 4th. Instead, I put the pedal nearly to the floor and let it shift through the gears at its own pace. I find it shifts pretty smoothly that...
I believe that to be true too. Some bus owners wanted the locking torque converter of the 1545, so they bought surplus 1545 transmissions to swap their 545s out with :p Meanwhile, the TM describes doing the opposite to the M35A3, so it seems like military planners either didn't like the 1545...
@Sgt Jiggins mentioned that he had a 1545 installed, which has the locking torque converter. The common 545 does not lock.
Searching the internet, I found that surplus 1545 transmissions were really popular with bus enthusiasts!
I think I remember that truck being listed on this site for sale!
I haven't heard about exploding fuel pumps, just the cracked alternator bracket really. Like @glcaines my truck starts instantaneously as well with the stock fuel pump unless it's below 45 degrees outside. Had it at a car show...
I'm happy to see the tranny is working right :) If I find some time this week maybe I can try to locate those lines on my truck.
As for an alternator, I've thought about putting one in there from a parts M35A2. However, I really want to keep the truck looking 1990s modern and would like to...
The one air line mention I saw in the TM is for the main air line that comes straight from the compressor. It seems that it runs close enough to the tranny that it needs to be removed for tranny removal. It does not go into the tranny, though.
So now I'm thinking they're vent lines. Or, did...
Pictures from the past weekend of what's probably the only car show in my area for the entire year. In one of them you see how well the camo paint job works :ROFLMAO: It was definitely the biggest vehicle there!
I might not know what I'm talking about. I'm also learning :p
Looking through the 2 of 2 of the operational maintenance TM, I find it curious that it actually describes replacing the 1545P with a 545, almost like someone was expecting that replacement to actually happen. There is mention of...
I had to look at your picture again. I thought you were referring to the vent line. Are you sure those aren't for the temperature gauge and either the neutral switch or backup light switch?
I got my M35A3 TMs from Jatonka's site. It seems this site is full of useful A2 TMs, which the A3 TMs also reference here and there (anything common with the A2 like the split brakes and suspension).
My 1995 AM General M35A3 is my first army truck. I don't intend to mod it other than eventually getting it a fresh coat of paint and new tires. Mechanically, it's the same as when it left the service besides the air pressure relief MWO (it was somehow missed in-service).
I'm trying to...
Does anyone have or know where I can find pictures of these trucks in the service? Could be on bases, in war zones, and so on. I haven't seen any besides those used by other countries.
This makes me wonder if these additions were made to it while in the service. It's not the first time I've heard of military vehicles get sold off with non-standard parts.
I'm planning on taking my truck to its first car show this weekend. I'm thinking about displaying some stuff alongside it, perhaps some pages from the manual or sales brochures from AM General, or other fun facts. I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me get some stuff prepared for the...
