If the brake pedal is hard, make sure you have enough clearance in the pedal adjustment for the master cylinder. If the pedal is set too tight it will cause the brakes to drag or lock up.
How is RAYZER's head gasket job going?
He had the heads on and torqued last night. I forgot to take pictures... Don't know how far they got today, I left at noon.
Get out your plastic doom card (with high limit) and call a big truck wrecker if you don't have an adequate tow vehicle and equipment. Better safe than sorry.
Unless the cooling system is marginal, I doubt you will see the temperature climb very much in 3 to 5 minutes. I've done many long pulls with my F350 out west at high elevation and the coolant temperature never changes. Sometimes the fan engages but that is probably more because of the AC.
You...
It’s been a while since I updated this thread so let me catch up.
I had a dragging brake near the end of the trip home so after getting it over to my buddy’s where I could work on it, I took it apart.
Taking the outside wheel nuts off was a piece o’cake, the inside thimbles were a different...
As pointed out, about 1200F is a good max. Unless you are going to run it there all day, a few degrees one way or the other won't matter. Putting more air through the engine (lower gear) and/or less fuel will drop the EGT on a long hard pull.
You pay the SF-97 fee, fill out the SF-97 form, and ultimately will receive a Florida title from GL. FYI, what you put on the form, is what will be on the title. Get the info right, GL does not verify weights, etc.
Sounds like you need two different trucks. A 6x6 military tractor of your choice to get in and out of the field, and either a M915 or better yet, a civilian road tractor (faster and more comfortable) for the road trip.
Yes, thanks Artisan. The third picture in post #1.
I had an intermittent flasher in my M929. I ended up digging out the potting and milling out the flasher can so I could mount a Grote 44850 flasher in the can and use the OE connector on the can. I made a clip on holder for the Grote flasher...
Are you sure both flasher units work? You can easily test them with a light bulb and battery or power supply. The flasher connector diagram is on SS somewhere. I don't have it on this computer.
You can test the coolant and add the SCA additive separately if you want to keep the original coolant. I change all my trucks over to an ELC type coolant that doesn't need to be tested or have the SCA's added. I use either Rotella ELC or Fleetguard ELC.
