Jacked up the front end and turned it back and forth to full lock (engine off) until the gurgling sounds stopped (about 40 times). Topped it off again and problem gone! This thing rides and handles like a dream compared to before the lift and crossover steering. The driveline noises even...
Will try again tomorrow with hopes of air in the system. PS fluid makes sense to me but research is telling me dex/merc 2 was spec and 3 is acceptable. Not sure why ATF would be recommended over PS fluid unless it is a hydroboost difference. Personally used both in a leaky ps pump on a newer...
No. In the power steering pump. It supplies pressure to the brake system (hydro boost). I read several post that say to use atf instead of ps fluid but don't mix them.
Well I added atf to the power steering and the brakes and steering came back but moaned like crazy. When I took the cap back off it foamed over.dont know if it had ps fluid in it previously and it doesn't like it or if the new/old sector shaft I installed is letting air get sucked by it. Would...
I apologize for posting here before doing my research first but you guys always come through. That's what I like about this page. You guys are awesome. Found this great page on the hydroboost system. Hope it helps someone...
Well ****! Did the lines and bled them first. Assumed the dry steering box would rob the fluid from the master as I thought they were the same system. Like I said I am not familiar with this system. Got a lot to learn. Will try that tomorrow. Never had a hard pedal with no brakes. Thanks again...
Just finished a 5" lift on my 1008. Had to drain all the fluid from my steering box to swap out the sector shaft with a 2WD one for crossover. Left it on jack stands and set the play properly and steering was nice and free until I started it. Figured I would need to add fluid to the master after...
Not a diesel pro by any means but it seems to me all 3 are just a cetane booster. I guess any time you add theese you are changing the lube/accelerant ratio. Maybe one has more lubricating elements to it. Appreciate you sharing what you have been told but I can't help but wonder if your local...
Definitely will. Now knowing about the waxing of the filter in the cold I can't believe I was never left stranded on the side of the road in the -20 weather it has been run. Especially with the little bulb filter meant to be on a gasser before the carb. Just goes to show how tolerant theese old...
IT'S ALIVE!!!!! Pulled the line off the down stream side of my inline bulb filter and cranked the motor. Fuel flowed into the bottle but it was grey. Replaced it with another and it was more fuel and clear. Put it back together and killed the batteries 5 times trying to start without a sputter...
Did not know about the wax buildup. Good to know. My rig literally has a small engine clear bulb filter on it. Lol. Put about 6k on it the year I have owned it and never a sputter. Will try a new one to see if it remedies my problem and install the spin on and electric pump when it warms up...
Thanks 98. Good to know. The stock filter has been removed and there is a clear inline filter with a clear line to the ip (done by PO) I have the parts to install a spin on filter just haven't got around to it. There was a air bubble in the clear line that moved freely up and under the air...
It has been a miserable cold couple of months in the north east and my m10008 has been down while installing a lift in between freezing temps. I start it once a week and it always fires up and runs great even when below zero. I went to start it last week at 0 degrees and it fired right up, ran...
Sharecropper, I just read through your build and am in complete awe. What an amazing build and thread. Am I to understand you didn't have to modify either the front or rear driveshafts? I ran into the same problem with the rear passenger shock. I ended up cutting wedges out of either side of the...
I was thinking about going that route but the only thing holding them in place were the half rotted top plate. That I didn't want to sandwich under the new top plate. Chris at ORD told me to ditch the old clamps and plates. Even with the old center bolt and rugged c clamps on either side the...
I used balljoint presses to clamp the leafs before I removed the old center pin. Still had 4 1/2" of spring with them compressed together. 5" grade 8 bolt was perfect. With my 4" shackle flip and zero rate and no shim the pinion lines up straight with the drive shaft. This is making me think I...
