Deuce vs neon

so I haven't been on the site in the past couple of months due to work being way to crazy and hadnt have the time to mess with the truck. Yesturday finaly had some down time so got all the cob webs out of it and the wife and I took it for the day to a family cook out. All was good until i was about to turn into my driveway last night.

As i was waiting for two cars to pass so that i could turn into the driveway the last car came across the line and hit the back axle. no one was hurt, I ended up with a bent rim (going out today in the daylight to look for more damage), the neon was totaled, blown both air bags snapped the transmission off the engine block, popped the radiator.

Luckly the neighbors called the cops, turned out the girl was drunk, her night ended up in jail.

I get to find out how good Gulfway insurance is on Monday when I make a claim.


Anyways, I'll be in the market for a replacement rim or two, and hopefully thats all , if anyone in the area has one for sale let me know,

Just wait, and you will get the same crap I did, I was told by the persons insurance co. to whom ran into me, that they do not pay claims to a military vhicle because it is camo'd! Even though the biggest damage done was broken reflectors on my truck! Figure that one out!

Drunk people shouldn't drive. Good thing she crossed the line when she was beside you and not just in front of you or she would have spent the night in the morgue.

Glad no one was hurt, perhaps this girl will spend some time in jail and then rehab and God willing she will stop drinking and driving before she kills someone.

Ring is on the other side. Should be no danger here.

If that is just the lip of that one rim bent, I would probably dismount the rim from the tire, and heat the rim and hammer it back into place.

That is one UGLY neon. Your insurance is most likely going to tell you to speak with neon's insurance provider. Now if she doesn't have insurance then you would go through yours. Judging by the car I give her a 50/50 chance of actually having insurance.

I would not do as others suggested and just repair the rim. Those rims are cheap, once repaired it will never be as strong as it was originally. Also repairing could lead to imbalance in the tire and cause vibration. I would ask for her insurance to buy a NOS rim and tire and pay for paint matching.

I'll keep beating it back into place in my back pocket, I'm curious to see what the insurance company offers, at the very least is needs to cover my time and effort to fix it.

down here you can get those rims with good...ish tires on them for $25-$50

i would just get a different rim see them all the for around 50 bucks with used tired the bearings will cost more than that if not balance proper. At least she hit you and did minor damage to the truck instead of a pedestrain or someone on a motorcycle. Good luck with the insurance co. weld a pipe to the damaged rim they make great grinder pedestals

I can't think of many vehicles I would rather be in while getting hit by a drunk Neon.

Glad that no one was hurt, this could have been a lot worse. As said before, she's lucky she didn't hit you head on.

I would condemn the tire as the car had to hit it hard, even if the apparent damage is only to the rim. Do not trust it because if the cord on the outside fails it can cause some problems for you or for the car next to you.

I would definitely inspect the bearings of that hub, and also the hub of the other axle on that side. I would also suspect the other outside tire as it most likely was hit as well, even if no damage is obvious. A large amount of lateral force was applied directly to your truck, in a very isolated area. Although the bearing may seem to be just fine, micro cracks may be present that will cause them to fail at speed.

You have to remember that enough force was dissapated to destroy her car and that force was "used up" in the collision with your truck. I have seen leaf springs broken in half on a one ton truck by an impact from a Ford Escort in a collision very similar to yours. Even with the damage the one ton drove off the street and made it to a parking lot where it could be repaired later. The escort was repairable, but was very close to being totalled.

I say all of this with no intention of advising you to gouge or otherwise take advantage of the offending driver's insurance. I am simply telling you to be completely thorough in your post accident inspection of the truck, and do not be afraid to ask for compensation to do this inspection. You are entitled to that as the result of another person's negligence.

thanks for the advice, that is exactly what I'm afraid of, and has worried me all night, the energy had to have gone some where, she was doing about 30 mph, i was stopped. When it comes to pulling stuff apart, I'm not sure what I'm looking for or even where to begin to start. I did another visual inspection and everything looks to be where it should. going back out to go over everything with a magnafying glass, so much for a quiet weekend

I would get HER insurance info and file through them before I would call my insurance company. And DO NOT take no for an answer if her insurance gives you any crap. She is the one at fault in the collision, and her insurance is responsible for the damages to your truck. I would take your truck to a certified diesel/ heavy truck mechanic and have him go over it with a fine tooth comb. Have the mechanic write up an estimate and submit it to her insurance company, (make sure you keep a copy of it also). Then dont forget to submit a claim with her insurance for the deprecation of the value of your truck due to the damages sustained by their client.

I have gone through this in the past, not with a MV, but I was hit by a drunk driver about 3 years ago and they tried to deny my claim. But I raised all kinds of holy **** and they finally paid out. PM me if you need any help.

I would call around for a quote for a new tire, tube, flap and rim. Plus labor to have the tire mounted and the rim painted. # quotes should suffice. Since you wholey ownt he deuce, the check would go to you. What kind of parts you spend the money on, that's your choice. Don't go to the insurance with prices for used parts, they may not take you seriously. Memphis is one place that comes to mind for a fair quote

I would check all the torque rod bushings, spring packs for shifting, and drive trough a puddle of water and see how the rear axles track. The chance of a bent axle is remote, but it would suck.
