Fuel sticker violation in NC

My point exactly... numbers matter.

Figure out how many car shows would be affected, tell the reps that your state could lose $X dollars in the local economy as more and more antique/classic owners simply stop going rather than deal with IFTA.

It HAS to be about money. Thats how the system works. If you pulled the attendance figures for say Aberdeen, Gilbert, the NJ MTA, the WWII Weekend at Reading, and the other LARGE shows and say look, these things may stop because IFTA is putting privately owned vehicles in jeopardy of fines that were never meant to affect them you cover all the bases:

Lost revenue because events get smaller
Lost State 'prestige' because once great events are not attended.
'For the Children' because these vehicles are the history of the country.

Write you single letter to the reps if you think it will help... but don't be surprised if nothing happens.

Ok so finally said the h*ll with it all and got my stickers..I think I can fight the $100 fine since it took 2 hrs in the IFTA office and they didnt know if I quallified for the stickers either lol..So I know have 2 bright yellow reflective stickers on my OD green truck :soapbox:, now I wonder how long it will be till I catch h**l about my 5k lbs tag on my 13K lbs truck..and still waiting on the outcome of my fuel test.
I personally would be thankful they didn't bust you for the tag when they had you pulled over originally.

You guys can talk about getting together ( even a large number) to try to change this TAX, it will be like pissen in the wind, with the FED. and the STATES broke, thay are NOT going to give up ONE CENT, all the fed and states are going to do is aggressively enforce EVERY law and reg. that brings in MONEY and while doing that thay will put MORE crap on the books to bring in more MONEY

You really need to read up on what needs changed. The fuel tax is always there... you pay it on every gallon of fuel you buy.

IFTA is the mechanism that distributes those taxes.

Once you get in front of a judge you should quiet easily be able to prove that IFTA does not pertain to you. Will that cost you a day of work and also the bond for a short while? Yes.

But forget to file your IFTA return and see what that costs you. Much more.

Paul, you can believe in IDLELOGY all you went but it comes down to this, the bottom line MONEY
If the states and fed can call our trucks commercial (even though thay are not) to get money thay will, we fall in a GRAY area, when the regs were/are written we were/are such a SMALL percentage of the big truck owners that we we are not even thought of. AS I said before if what ever brings in money, the feds and states will do it, In court it is a matter how the court interprets the regs.and how the fed and states put it to the courts, this has NOTHING to do with what is right, fair, or common sense, it ONLY has to do with making money, from court fees, up to the fine and then the add ons (in some cases you pay court fees just to plead NOT GUILTY). This is how a $20 jay walking ticket turns into a $120 total cost. Things WILL NOT change as long as the GOV. SPENDS, SPENDS, SPENDS and since the only money coming in for this spending ADDECTION is ether from us the PEOPLE or PRINTING it, things will only get WORSE, this fuel tax is only the tip of the ice burg as more and more laws and regs are written with the ONLY goal is to RAISE money.

any update on the test of fuel sample? I have a feeling they might be lil upset about your mixture
The dye used in off road fuel is specific, and that is what the DMV lab tests for. They started that after folks contested charges in court claiming they were adding ATF for lubricity.

Unless the test showed the specific off road fuel dye, no charges.

You should tone down the rhetoric and think about the reason WHY they specifically want the money:

Tri axle trucks cause more damage to roads that twin axle. Its really that simple.

You can blather on about unfairness, but roads to not fix themselves. You cannot have nice smooth pothole free roads without maintenance. Tri-axle vehicles evidently cause more damage, therefor the States want the fuel tax to pay for the roads.

Now you can twist the tin foil cap tighter and go on and on about how unfair YOU THINK IT IS. But the roads need fixed, and the money fro fuel sales are specifically allocated to do that.

YOU HAVE A CHOICE: Get the sticker and fill out the paperwork... or don't drive a tri-axle truck. Its that simple. If you refuse to do the former.. than be prepared for a court date. Go to the judge and 'splain it to them. Its not like they are after YOU and YOUR TRUCK EXPLICITLY. They are enforcing what they believe the law to be. You have the right to redress your fine in front of a judge.

If you just want free everything without paying then good luck with that. Nothing is free. Only the uninformed believe that.

The part in red is where ya screwed up. Kerosene, 99% of it anyway, has the red dye marking it for off road use. Same stuff they use to mark off road disel.

Putting K1 in your tank is the same as dumping off road diesel in it.

All was bought and payed for and taxed added to it..I was thinking they would put some specific dye that dobody else has or can use to keep mix'ups like this from happening.

I was aggravated already just for the simple fact that its my truck,i bought it pyed taxes on it in GA and every year now in NC. I should be able to burn whatever I da*n well please in it, BUt I guess thats the state gov's choice on what I do,how, and to that extent, maybe I should ask them where to fill up to..:soapbox:
sry it just makes me lil hot

Might have been some part of the red in the ATF that was the same then.

They want the money alright- But fuel taxes actually do go to fix roads. And you can't use the excuse- "well I paid taxes on the motor oil when I bought it to put in the engine". Now it is used to power a motor vehicle on a public hwy. Different set of taxes.

Again, this is why I have a blenders license and fill out a report each month- they can dip my tank all they want, if I show them the license, it goes no further.

what about the ATF fluid? unfortunately as many of the states laws read your in violation if you run anything other than taxed fuel (gas, kerosine, diesel, ect) in your vehicle on the road, period. there isnt room to wiggle and telling them you ran anything other than those fuels is essentially an admission of guilt (not that it matters anyway). if you run enough of the other stuff to make it financially beneficial id look into a blenders license otherwise id keep to the pump.

sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I have seen trucks come out of govt service with dyed fuel in them. There could have been some dye residue on the tank walls and bottom, and the stuff you put in there knocked it loose. I know it leaves a stain on the inside of my farm tractor tank. 1.4ppm is a very small amount. I believe you can fight it on the basis the govt could have contaminated your fuel system when they owned it.

Most of what you specify you have put in your tank should be OK to use as an additive to diesel fuel. Kerosene is commonly mixed with #2 diesel to thin it out for winter fuel up north. But when they do that, they don't have any dye in the kerosene. Home heating oil will also be dyed. Keeping in mind that modern ULSD has almost no sulphur and no lubricity in it, my plan for when I get a deuce is to run Lucas fuel treatment in it which has no dye but I have never been comfy with the idea of running ULSD by itself in an older model truck. It may be totally feasible that such a small amount of dye washed off the walls of the fuel tank if the government ran dyed fuel in it.
