Well I have not done a thread. I have wanted to I just have not done it I have been taking pics just not loaded into anything but i will I hope soon and i will let you see what I have done. I am really enjoying your thread and a lot of others here on SS.

Glad you liked it. Wasn't working out and had to let it go.

Came up with a Plan B (with a commercial chassis), and going that route. I'll post something about that in not too long.

Hi all!

Some progress on the swap! The Scania engine was mated to the Scania 5 speed transmission, the coupling shaft was modified to accept the Kraz t-case. Started on making the motor mounts to the engine/tranny combo now.

Yep, at a slow pace but coming along, like a Sherman searching for a Tiger!

I'm dealing with the engine swap and started to deal with the cooling and the steering (gonna need to use full hydro steering, the original one must go, no space left).

What about you? What have you being doing around there?

By now you have probably found the front axle drive shafts, if not, any reputable machine chop could make you new ones using salvaged U joints and heavy duty torque tube stock from some other large truck (wrecked or junked). As to the axle shafts in the housings, again, if you can't find KRAZ you will likely be able to find something that cab be adapted. The Russian iron always struck me as even more primitive then our M series trucks....

Yep, ex-USSR trucks are crude and beautiful in a such way, easy to repair and maintain. After getting the truck rolling, going to deal with the front axle shafts.

Yes, they are bolted to the engine block, 4 bolts per side. Motor mounts were made by using 1/2" x 3" and 1/2" x 4" flat stock. Bolts are M12x1,5.

Awesome thread! Great pics and descriptions! Love the Kraz and Ural trucks...hope someday to be able to get one (or both). Thanks for the extra engine pics, interesting to see a 6-71 knock off. Shame that wasn't in better condition, if you needed more power, just swap in larger injectors. I like the tires, are you going to keep them or round up new ones? They look like a model from Omsk Tyre.

Thanks so much for your kind words and support! Yep, I just went with Scania engine cause its cheaper and easier to find spare parts for it. YAZ isn't completely shot down but here no parts for it anyway.

The tires are going to stay until I can afford new ones.

Here some more pics, just have made the fan to water pulley adapter (made milled some pockets inside of it, to save weight). Got some pics too of the Valmet orbitrol ram and also the mid shaft adapter (goes between the transfer case and transmission). I hope you all enjoy!

Like that the block is powder-blue:

- Brings to mind that Russian look (common to so much of their naval, airforce, and other hardware).

Don't know the story behind it, but they seem to like that color a lot the in the Russian military.

Nice machining! Also like the pic in AA's post above with the bottle jack to help locate the engine. I remember a pry bar against my side and welding stinger in the other hand to make a quick tack when I got the right position.

Bottle jacks are like swiss army knives, at the shop they are f....g helpful! Can't stop having so much of them around.
