    MEP-004A small issues...

On your filler cap thing, what exactly is the problem? I can’t tell from the picture but is it a screen for the fuel going in and it needs cleaning? I recently cleaned two of mine that were not letting the fuel flow in satisfactorily. They seemed to have a waxy coating. The first I damaged...

    Transfer switch MEP-803a

I would second the interlock option and that is also doing it right. Fellow down the road bought an 802 and installed it himself. It depends on many factors, but his panel is in the garage and most panel makers now have interlock kits. Robert

MEP804A will crank second then over speed fault occurs

Make sure to hold S1 (start switch) around 10 seconds after it starts, won’t hurt anything. If you let go the instant it catches, strange things can happen. These gensets start different than any other thing I have ever cranked. Follow the instructions inside the control flap exactly.

    MEP 04 B

Do you mean a MEP 804b generator? Robert

⁸What causes under voltage error in MEP-805B? Sometimes it runs fine, but ultimately will show this errer and stop generating. Seems to heal itsel

Are you making sure to hold the switch in start several seconds (>10) after it is running? There are several interlocks that need to be satisfied just after start to operate correctly. Read the starting instructions probably on the inside of the lid that covers the control panel and follow...

MEP 804B suddenly cranks but won't start

I have put around 800 hours on my 804b running my FDECU-5 (field deployable environmental control unit) which is a 5 ton heat pump. It pulls up to 60 amps per phase at 208v and can load mine to 80%. It also has two heaters of 5 KW each that can be selected in the maintenance mode. The inrush...

MEP 804B suddenly cranks but won't start

My 804a once quit starting and the MPU had picked up some debris. My 804b always starts right up. Make sure to hold the switch in start until the oil pressure comes up as it says in the plackard under the control lid. The 804b has that loop that catches the left corner of the lid open on top...

    First start of a MEP-002, do's and don'ts?

After it starts, and my 003 really loves preheat, keep holding the switch in start for several seconds until the oil pressure stabilizes. I had never seen engines start this way but that is how you do it. It will not hurt anything. Obviously, if you hear the starter grinding, let go since...

Making stationary engines more efficient when loads are reduced

Have you heard of a rotary phase converter? I made my own from a 7.5 hp three phase motor and a small pony motor to get it spinning before feeding it 240v single phase power, then it makes the third leg. I could start a Powermatic 36” bandsaw with a 7.5 hp motor. Any thing like a jointer...

    802a Hard Start - Thoughts?

I only have 804s of the newer type MEPs. I believe this unit also has a Magnetic Pickup (MPU) and it may have collected some funk on the end and is not letting in enough fuel for starting. It should be puffing white smoke as you are trying to start. My 804 book says not to run the starter...

MEP-804B - New to me, I have a few questions

That picture showing the exhaust is rather smokey. Unless it is right at start, you may need to get a good load on it to burn out the carbon, search wet stacking. My 804b is more robust than my 804a. I now have 5 FDECU (field deployable environmental control unit) 5 ton heat pumps for some...

TQG MPU failure - How common?

On my 804a, it worked fine until one day it didn’t. While cranking, no white puffs from the exhaust as if it wasn’t getting fuel. Went to the logic tree and none of that worked. Should have started with the magnetic pickup (MPU). It had some crap stuck to the end. Reinstalled, adjusted...

    MEP-804B

To my knowledge, it is not possible to “rewire” an mep 804 to single phase like you can a 004 since it is a 10 wire generator head vs a 12 wire on the 004. Don’t know about any type of transformer. I do have a phase converter in the shop to power the three phase woodworking equipment I have in...

    2011 MEP 804B fuse/resister MOV mod ?

When you go to start your generators, you must keep the switch in start for around 5-10 seconds After it is running. It will not hurt anything and it gets the oil press up and energizes the field so it will produce electricity. Did you get the 804b to power three phase equipment? Unlike the...

    Moving a MEP 805A

You do realize that it is a 3 phase only generator ? Yes, you can finagle and get some single phase out of it but it was not designed for that. If you have a shop or some other business that needs three phase, it may be a good fit. For a house not so much. That is a 30 kw generator where...

MEP-004A Gen Set not generating any voltage?

Maybe vibration got something loose on the drive home. Does that unit have a panel in the control area that you can drop down and check behind.? Wiggle every connection you can see if something came loose. Robert

    240V 3ph on MEP-806B. Is it safe?

I would suggest that you hook up the generator without the computer suppy energized if possible. Then get a meter and try to read the voltage in the control box where hopefully the computer part is not plugged into yet and see what you get with different voltages . Is this system totally...

MEPS 806B how to turn it into a "dumb" generator

Does this person have a manufacturing plant or numerous chicken houses to supply backup power to? If it is just for a house, that is not a good fit. Robert
