    MEP 804b wont crank

When you say the “crank sensor“, do you mean the MPU (magnetic pickup) found inside the left door at the flywheel? My 804a would just click at the solenoid when I first got it. I kept wiggling and tapping things and it finally started working correctly. You can get the MPU from eBay, search...

    Connecting 2-200 amp panels

That’s what I did. Be careful and make absolutely sure you are off the grid the whole time the genset is energized. Robert

    MEP 805A won't start

I have 804s but no 805. At least on my 804s, if I don’t see puffs of white smoke from the exhaust after a few seconds of cranking, it is not getting fuel and it has almost always been an issue with the MPU. Try raising the cranking voltage on the MPU without grinding it on the flywheel since...

    Mep 804a not stay running

Is this set new to you? Do you have experience with miitary generators? Did you read the TM (technical Manual)? Have you ever seen it running correctly? Does the oil pressure come up? You need to hold the switch in start for a few seconds after it is running until the interlocks are...

Isuzu powered Drash 5 pin connectors

Look closely on the green rubber area and you may see a number, should be 32-12 as mentioned above. That kind of connector is on the FDECU (field deployable environmental control unit). Look on ebay under 32-12 connector. The female end seems harder to find. I got a couple for around $75 and...

Info please on short circuited MEP 805A

May not apply in your case, but on my 804a I would often get a short circuit light when the compressor on my FDECU-5 (5 ton heat pump/AC) Comes on due to the huge inrush of current. My 804b is not as touchy to a sudden load. You mentioned that someone was trying to bring on line more...

Newly Acquired 003A - Unknown Condition

If you have never run a MEP generator, the start is unlike any engine I had ever cranked before. You must continue to hold the start knob in start after it is running in order to flash the field And let the rising oil pressure satisfy the low oil pressure safety switch. On my 003, I guess I...

MEP-803A getting it to work,,,my first one!

I would get a manual switch since you have to start the 803 and get it online unless you get a remote start for it also. The automatic gear can get to be more than the generator. Robert

MEP-803A getting it to work,,,my first one!

Make sure and get the Cauldwell book with the latest revision anyway. It has lots of excellent knowledge about how to actually wire things up with examples. Talk to an electrican. So many folks now have generators that they should be familiar with the proper way to hook them up. I didn’t get...

MEP-803A getting it to work,,,my first one!

It is possible that there is a main breaker outside where the meter is. Robert

    MEP804A under then over voltage

Please give this a try. From your list of equipment, it doesn’t look like you have a genset so you may not have experience cranking one. These MEP generators start different than any other electric start engine I have ever been around. You need to hold the start switch in start for at least...

MEP-803A getting it to work,,,my first one!

Get the book, it will explain and answer your question. The two hots of a 240v line (120+120) go to the A and B side of a breaker box. That is why a a 240v breaker basically is two 120v breakers tied together with a bar since it gets juice from both the A and B side. A 120 v breaker just gets...

MEP-803A getting it to work,,,my first one!

When I built and wired my house, I put in a 400 amp service entrance with two 200 amp sub panels (sub panels since they are not back to back to the service entrance) plus a 125 sub panel in the far end of the house to save on wire. I wanted plenty of slots. Just in the room above the garage, I...

MEP-803A getting it to work,,,my first one!

Make sure to never, never, never switch from 1ph to 3ph (single phase to three phase or vise versa) with the set running. From your comments it seems you just need 1 ph. Bad things can happen if you do. Do you have several tractors or pieces of equipment? We used to farm full time and just...

    MEP804A under then over voltage

Did this happen all of a sudden after normal running for a while or did you just get this 804 and have never seen it run normal? A little more information would be helpful. Do you hold the switch in start until the oil pressure stabilizes? Robert

    Mep 804a won’t start

Guy, hope you had a pleasant Memorial Day. The last photo with the yellow bucket on the right side is C Pope’s MPU. He said after reinstalling it 1.5 turns out, he’s only getting 0.33 volts ( I told him to make sure it’s VAC).

    Mep 804a won’t start

Make sure you are measuring AC volts. I think the Ohms should be around 700-900. I bought a mpu from ebay, search MSP6729, 3/8-24, $20.34. I tried to find the test procedure but couldn’t, perhaps someone can chime in where to find it. Robert

    Mep 804a won’t start

Install the mpu until it bottoms out, then back out 1.5 turns and tighten down. Crank with the dead crank switch and measure VAC from the wires on the disconnected mpu. You should see maybe 2 or a little more. Screw it in a RCH and check again (1/8 turn). You want to get up toward 2.8 vac...

    Mep 804a won’t start

I am 99% sure you have a magnetic pickup problem. Search mpu. Have you ever seen this run correctly? You can get a piece of funk on the end of the magnet that will all of a sudden not let the fuel flow since it doesn’t realize the engine is turning. If you crank and don’t start to see puffs...
