Found something interesting today. I was prepping this truck for sale, and during the bolt tight check between the tranny and t-case I found these non-shouldered bolts on the left, 3 were installed on the intermediate shaft and 1 on the front axle drive shaft. The correct shouldered bolts/nuts...
Not sure what happened, last time I saw it, it was still marginal, guess the mods decided it was not appropriate. Threads seem to disappear for less, and less lately. . .
I'm having a B tch of a time getting it to feed. . . maybe the media, not sure, but it won't draw very good out of the bucket with the wand that came with the blaster. . . goes in spurts, then stops feeding till you move siphon wand around in the bucket.
But when it does feed right, it goes...

If you do go the weld on route, make sure whomever does it only does a small amount each time, allowing to cool in between, if they do it all at once, you'll melt the front crank oil seal.
If the snout on the crank is as messed up as you described, either a new crank or an engine swap is in order. . .
Had this happen to a big block chevy once, but caught it before the balancer departed from the motor, replaced it with a new balancer, and key, worked fine.
