    60A regulator on 200A alternator?

Hi folks, So the regulator on my A2 is acting funny with inconsistent voltage from 22 to 28v and the 12V stage is simply dead. Since I don't use and don't plan to use the 12V circuit is it ok to simply ignore it or are there 12V devices I'm not aware of that need the regulated 12V channel? On...

Anyone put an "infotainment" in a HMMWV?

Quick update on this project. I have finalized the sourcing of the controller that offers a few analog and digital outputs and inputs. I wanted a tough compact system, not a PLC that's bulky and super expensive. we happen to build an IP68 controller powered by an Intel processor and capable of...

    Root cause of engine swap?!

    Good to know. Thanks guys.

    CTIS DASH PICS

I tend to agree. Don't get CTIS if you're not a serious off-road guy.

    CTIS DASH PICS

I believe that those who make fun of CTIS have never used it seriously. I raced on a baja-style buggy and we had ctis for a while before it was banned in our category. It was awesome and I've always missed it since, for any serious off-road. I found this stuff so addictive that I'm still...

Anyone put an "infotainment" in a HMMWV?

Thanks. one requirement that became really clear is that since it will be a hobby system, most users will want to be able to manage it, hack into it, add applications etc. so it should run Windows 11 - as much as I prefer Linux by far for embedded apps, but very few people know how to use it...

Turbo waste gate conversion to adjustable

I used this on my Willys before converting it to 12V, for instance. That would be totally overkill for your app but a good way to safely create a 12V bus with a couple breakers if you are not comfortable with wiring a 12V line in your truck.

Turbo waste gate conversion to adjustable

If you need a reliable DC-DC stepper to get 12V reliable I can recommend a couple turn key boxes that you can't wire wrong. But as Mogman explained you must have 12V 'in the neighborhood' ;)

    CTIS DASH PICS

I have enjoyed CTIS on racing SUVs back in the days, very helpful for changes of terrain and weather like in Africa. I heard the A2 hubs may be CTIS ready and that's on my list to check and convert my A2 if that's the case. Before that I need to complete its sanitation and get the M1123 on the...

    Root cause of engine swap?!

The thing that bothers me the most is when cheap, poorly made Chinese parts are sold to us as original to restore our Hmmwv's. The Willys market is flooded with Mahindra parts from India - super bad steel quality that bends and rusts easily while my parts from the 40's are still straight and...

    Root cause of engine swap?!

I've worked a bit in China and have seen those. Don't worry too much about them. A 25 year old H1 would be a better choice. I believe the hood is made of ABS for instance and contains no fiber. I was told they would crack like a modern bumper cover and would just need replacement. I also...

    Root cause of engine swap?!

Since we're deviating a bit, I'm currently building an industrial controller that's also suitable for aerospace, military and other critical spaces. Therefore I wanted the BOM to be as American (North American) as possible. We worked hard and managed to have less than 50% of the component not...

    6.5L Turbo Waste Gate Movement

Absolutely, which is a reason why a blowoff doesn't really make sense on a diesel. You don't have that instant pressure spike when closing the throttle.

    Root cause of engine swap?!

Thanks guys. It will be hard to know the actual history of this truck but I start to know a bit now: it was deployed in Irak, came back, stayed as a reserve truck in Virginia and got acquired a couple years ago. The previous owner got a crate turbo engine with a used tranny and had them...

    Root cause of engine swap?!

I took the entire intake line off and washed it. The intake port on the new engine is pristine. So this seems to be something that happened with the previous engine and I'm baffled they didn't even cleanup the filter box and intake line...

    Root cause of engine swap?!

Hi folks, I think I know why the engine on this humvee was replaced. By the way sanding the hood there is a marking using usual military stencil "engine rotated" followed by something else. Would "rotated" mean changed or something like that? this isn't rust obviously because it's aluminum...

    6.5L Turbo Waste Gate Movement

The waste gate just relieves the turbine side of the turbo by redirecting a part of the flow from the exhaust so it doesn't feed the turbo, and importantly drop the pressure significantly which slows down the turbo as the pressure upstream and downstream the turbine are theoretically equalized...
