    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

Paul, back when I used Chevron DELO ESI 80w-90 GL-5/MT-1, my transmission became much harder to shift. It failed within 1000 miles, though the failure cannot be traced to the oil change. However as you show in your post above, the MT-1 rating is for NON-SYNCHRONIZED manual transmissions. In...

    Yet another transmission replacement thread!

    Alright, good job!

Engine oil disaster, need some advise

Wow, I thought we had this problem solved! I think you need to clean the engine and have someone to watch the engine to see where the oil is coming from.... Filter canisters, oil sampling port, pipe plugs, cracked castings, injector pump, hoses... There are too many potential sources in that...

3-53 goat power plant where are they?

The aluminum 3-53 was used ONLY in the goat. It looks very similar to the iron blocked engines that would be in other applications. I don't see why you couldn't put an iron blocked engine in a goat, but you'd need the goat-specific parts off an aluminum engine (like the exhaust manifold?)...

    M35a2 Timing

After I swapped hydraulic heads on Jim's deuce (The Recorder), it was quite a bit less powerful.... I know it was done correctly, so we figured it was just a difference in parts. Tolerances / amount of wear? Manufacturing difference? It made sense that a hydraulic head change would affect...

    Flat towing a deuce chassis

Boring. When I read the thread subject, I thought it said "Fiat" towing a deuce.... I thought, "Now THIS I gotta see!" :cookoo:

Engine oil disaster, need some advise

That's the right stuff.... You won't have any trouble with those gaskets, as posted above they fit into a groove in the base. When I said in my previous post "square section o-ring" I was thinking of fuel filters not oil filters. I'm glad the supplier is taking care of you... Jon

    Did you know....

I shouldn't be sticking up for GL, but I don't think they did this damage. While it looks fresh in a few areas, there is also a lot of rust there. I bet that damage is 12-18 months old, probably happened when the truck was turned in to DRMO. Jon

    Source for 24084 Paint?

Bjorn the XM757 looks fantastic.... That's the color all right. I remember you bravely chose Aervoe despite the reputation for fading, and I remember you said it was a new formulation. I'm glad it's held up well, and I'll definitely consider using it. My 3-year-old Gillespie paint looks more...

Syn gear oil in a 3053A

This is an old thread! ....My post above referenced a transmission that is, sadly, no longer among the living. The replacement has been filled with Chevron DELO Synthetic Transmission Fluid SAE 50, which is in line with Spicer recommendations rather than military. So far, so good. I do...

    Coast to Coast

If I could do such a trip -- meaning I had plenty of time and plenty of money to take care of any unforeseen problems en route -- I would totally go for it. I wonder how much money Bjorn figures he saved by collecting WVO along his route when he drove the Cranetruck from VA to CA back in 2006...

My Deuce, From Purchase to Present

Yes, good catch.... I work for Uncle Warren. "Buffet Never Spends Foolishly" We're his personal train layout. Conductor since 12/99 and promoted engineer since 3/05. I get called out of San Bernardino to run to L.A., San Diego, Barstow, or Needles. You a railroader too? ....There's a bunch...

    Help deuce leaking fuel

Cool deal! I still haven't bypassed my FDC, but it doesn't seem to be leaking. I should quit tempting fate and just do it.... Jon

    Source for 24084 Paint?

Thanks David! That definitely helps. What exactly did you order from Randolph? I assume you told them "FS 595B 24084" but in what paint? They seem to have a lot of different product lines.... Maybe I can have them look up your last order. 8-) Did you use this to re-paint your compressor...

    Clutch Job Looming

A few thoughts after reading this thread.... -- Are you sure you put the clutch disk in facing the right way? It is not reversible, there is a pressure plate side and a flywheel side. -- Are you sure you used the correct clutch disk and pressure plate combination? The 3-puck disk must go...

    Source for 24084 Paint?

I stopped by my local Sherwin Williams store today... They referred me to the Sherwin Williams Industrial Coatings store in Riverside, CA (about 50 miles from me). However, they did have a FS 595B color fan there and I was able to gaze on 24084 with my own eyes. It looked black! It had only...

    Source for 24084 Paint?

Thanks... I like it too, so I don't consider it 'remorse', just a learning experience. When I remove original parts, like the front bumper and brackets which are off right now, and so expose unfaded original paint, the difference between the original and the Gillespie is noticeable...
