The NHC250 being naturally aspirated has advantages. No turbo lag. As for the Cummins having more costly maintenance, what maintenance did you have in mind that is required for the Cummins over the NHC250?
I don't know the RPMs at the point it unlocks, but it sounds like a safety risk if it isn't done right. Say you needed to brake for a deer and the converter lock was overridden. Wouldn't the truck stall? Maybe wire a sensor from the brake to your auto-locking mech so the converter unlocks if you...
A forum member in AK would probably be ideal. Would it be a PITA to get past the USA border and into Canada? I wonder what they would required as far as being road worthy/legal.
Completely different experience. To SS's credit, it was a tall order to prevent frame corrosion for 22 years and they failed at that initially but did eventually get a passing grade. Its the teething that steers me away.
Yeah, the reverse thing is a big deal. I found the article (or one that talked about the same history). Maybe the Army publicly threw SW under the bus for their own short sightings. I've seen the problems in the article posted here, like the vibration issues tearing apart the driveline on the...
I came across an article that provided some history on Stewart & Stevenson (SW). They won the contract to develop a new fleet of vehicles for the Army, but the Army owned the blueprints/design so it wasn't proprietary. Any vehicle manufacture could build the fleet because of this design...
After seeing a trip report from a guy with a van and a military trailer, I think the M932 and trailer would out perform the M934 with higher center gravity. But I don't think I want to manage a huge truck plus a trailer. The trade off of limiting where to go is more appealing.
As insane as it...
The figures include the weight of what was being towed and transported (van box), not the GVW.
First trip:
M934A1 van/shop unit 10,000 lbs
M925A1 curb weight 22,750 lbs (in tow)
Total weight 33,750 lbs
Second trip:
MK16 curb weight 40,550 lbs (in tow)
One run from Las Vegas to Phoenix the M934A2 was transporting 32,750 lbs and traveling 8 MPH. The other run a M923A2 transported 17,800 lbs more and drove ~27 MPH faster. What is interesting is the M934A2 has more power and had a much lighter load to transport, yet traveled immensely slower. At...
I like the size of it from the picture. What did you think of it? The perspective is much bigger than an already big truck :D It would be fun to see one. Plan B is nearby, I've been thinking about going down there.
The downsides that have been mentioned might be worth the trade-off. Namely the...
