I'd say thats par for the course on some items being moved out these days. Either trash machines, or purposely made to not function with small changes like this.
If you end up with a problematic overload, I might be able to assist in a replacement for you. New/open box for that unit are up on the big auction site 350-400.
ebm-papst # W3G300-ER38-47 or the Cummins number Guy listed. I can only find it in stock with the big C.... ouch

A little birdie once told me a LOT of L-P stuff was produced outside of the UK (possibly even the raw castings for the LP Alpha blocks in China...). I cannot confirm either way, but it was someone who would have good authority on the subject.
I know a lot of their parts for their older lines...
I'm glad you got the part in time and that it worked out for you. Under pressure to MAKE IT WORK is always the worst, and where the most mistakes are made. Lesson learned, right? Happens to us all.
Good luck to all in the area. My parents are currently vacationing on Marco Island... 7 floors up in a CAT 5 rated hotel. Im told tons of first responder personnel are in the same place as a working base.
The only way I tackle that stupid damn filter is with a chain wrench, with the side panel off (all but the lowest right corner bolt, use that as a pivot to move the panel up and out of the way). It works every time.
Its not ideal, but if you needed to you could also just have a line fabbed up to bypass the separator temporarily in the face of a hurricane. A parts store should be able to make one for you.
Well I don't know if its necessarily for shielding... may be in some instances. I think its more of a clearinghouse for items without assigned vendors. Having NSNs issued (let alone amended) is a PITA from my professional experience working with the Navy on specialized inspection equipment projects.
Here is the item in question:

You will see two Onan listed items. You can reach out to your local Cummins/Onan dealer to...
Optima Red Top 34/78 were the standard issue. I use 51Rs most of the time, as they will fit both 802s and 803s. Find a high quality battery that will fit in the spot and give it hell. You don't need the high cranking amps of larger batteries, due to your location. We need the high amps up here...
You really should replace them both at the same time, with identical units (at the same time, not necessarily what was there before). Just a matched pair.
The TMs for your machine can be found here: https://steelsoldiers.com/threads/all-the-manuals-for-the-mep-802-5kw-generator-and-mep-803-10kw-generator.148871/
