So not a cracked case then? Any way to verify a cracked head without pulling the heads? Could it be cracked, allowing coolant into the combustion chamber, and thats where it is going?
Any harm running it as is, or trying the sealer approach?
The 5 gallons that I drained out at first, when it was hot, has no signs of coolant. I then let it sit in the drip pan for a couple days, and poured it off. No coolant.
Coolant in the radiator has no signs of oil.
But what collected in the truck, when there was no oil in the truck, shows what...
I dumped the oil a couple days ago. I didnt have the filters, so I didnt fill it back up.
I got the filters today. Before installing and adding the oil, I popped the drain plug off again.
This is what came out. Some antifreeze. A cup or two.
I dont get what is going on here.
Yes, my truck has a lot of blowby, so thats a good point that the water may very well be coming from the combustion process. I dont intend to source the cause of the blowby tho. It starts and runs fine otherwise, down to the teens with no start assists. I cant compare my truck to anyone elses...
I thought I had filters on hand to change the oil, but apparently I do not. So now it sits while those wait to come in.
In the mean time, I will pressure test the coolant system again as suggested.
And I would so appreciate if there was anyone around with experience with these for a second...
I put on about 30 miles today and then dumped the oil. New radiator cap. The oil is black, the correct amount, and has no signs of milkshake or water. So thats good.
The slobber tube continues to drip water. Just water now, no slop. It was clogged with sludge before and is now clear and...
The thread where you detail this is exactly what worries me. What did the crankcase oil look like, and at what rate was it rising or making itself evident on the dipstick? Was there a direct correlation between your coolant level drop, and what showed up on the dipstick or was it coming out the...
I picked up a new radiator cap on my way home today, at napa. I like that overflow bottle idea too.
Hopefully ill get to drive it tomorrow, and see if I can make heads or tails of the situation.
That seems to be the best course of action.
My overflow tube I have is clogged solid. Any coolant coming out the top would just steam or spill into the engine bay. But I have seen no evidence of that.
So you have a overflow bottle plumbed in to the existing overflow tube? Is it just a catch...
Thanks for the picture, that is pretty much the level I have now.
I guess my only choice now is to keep an eye on the situation. I have never seen coolant puking or coming out of the cap. Does it steam out? All I knew, was that the level was dropping.
So am I over thinking this? Could...
The coolant I flushed out and changed looked excellent. No oil in there.
I dont know where the level should be. I just changed everything, so how long before the level stabilizes and the air is out of the system, so I can determine whether im losing coolant or not?
The rocker arms are pretty clean. Just a 1/2 " layer of goo on the valve covers.
I cleaned it off and reinstalled. I'm just concerned that I have a sick motor.
Here is a bit of history first on the truck;
I bought the truck about a year ago. It came from a reputable PA military reseller, who bought the truck straight from GL. They got the truck with a blown head gasket, and a crankcase full of anti freeze. The seller changed the head gaskets with...
