What about a towbar mounted on the little truck? Like the ones the old folks use to tow their rav-4 behind the 50' rv?
That would be money and work, but you could get it all ready before the recovery.
Other option is just drag along a buddy to drive little truck back. His meal plus gas for...
Dirt cheap honestly. Trashed/damaged HEMTT's can bring 20k easy.
I'd love to buy it and strip the fire gear off and use the second engine to power the rear tandems.
That said it's definitely a specialty vehicle that has special and expensive needs.
Like that Stewart Stevenson airplane tug...
Most forums have a "turn signatures off" button in the user settings. Perhaps you should take a minute and find it?
Edit: User CP->Edit Options->thread display options->turn sigs off
not knowing the dimensions of the the smaller tank i guessed roughly 20 inches dimater by 40 inches long. yields a capacity of just under 55 gallons. Keeping the same diameter that volume increase would change the length by roughly 17.5 inches (so 20x57.5)
Or we could go from a 20x40 to a...

Thats a pic from a local shortline RR website, they bought a refurbed swingmaster in IL and had it shipped home via rail, UP to be exact.
To be fair they will be the ones picking it up from UP and probably got a deal but they...
I would imagine you could plumb it in before the filter, but that's just a guess. I'm not sure if anyone makes an automotive style sandwich plate for these larger engines.
Another idea is looking at where the turbo oil supply comes from.
Ya, isnt it like 10% or 25% of the sale price?
Wonder the story behind that. If they actually paid that to get out of it (why?) or if there was another issue.
I doubt its a current SS member. I would be bragging like no theres no tomorrow if i had just won that setup :)
does one typically check EGT's before or after the turbo with a diesel?
I'd assume before, just like a gas engine but wasnt sure.
Obviously this is ideal, i know without some fab work its not always feasible to have the probe right where you want it.
so forgive me if im missing something but how do you transport it without towing a truck? Seems the tru-hitch would flip the fifth wheel plate back and drag.
Looks like an awesome way to do a recovery though, keeps things fairly headache free.
Thanks for the pics M1075!
intended use plays a big role in material selection i would guess.
And yes, i would imagine most of the plumbing (especially for potable water use) will add up quickly if purchased new.
Truck looks awesome and the trailers seem to be in good shape.
So to carry anything on these you need either a module meant for it or a "flat rack"?
Do the flat racks show up on gl? Also these obviously have hydraulic connections for the lifting system, how are you handling that on the m920...
Astm does list a spec for L9 hardware and other grades. SAE does not.
ASTM A574
As for tensile strength increasing brittleness I don't think any hardware spec is going to have a tensile strength so high as to make the fastener significantly more brittle.
Good to know I'm not too far off in left field. Any thoughts as for the front axle and getting power to Axle number one? Obviously the rear axles have the right setup but don't steer. Can I somehow swap the center chunks from a rear axle onto the tubes from a front? Finding a steer axle setup to...
I'd like to bump this up again. Thinking about doing essentially what WM said with a M920 as the base vehicle. Then use the rear suspension from another m920 fitted with two steering axles. Tie rod connecting the two axles would have to be fabbed as would the arms to achieve the right steering...
Not that it needs saying but do be careful with the rating of those chains. With the way the load is pulling them and already being at an angle to each other they are seeing a much higher load.
Just something to keep an eye out for.
Looks like an awesome project. Maybe i will get a chance to...
