I think a lot more folks need to commit, if this thing is to take off the ground. But thats just my perspective... I am not the one having the things made.
Well you will want an anti-siphon valve for an above ground tank then. You will probably need to do some custom machining to make it work, along with the factory aux input line.... but its possible. Do you have multiple inlet/outlets on the top of the tank?
You can also use expanded sheet in place of hardware cloth

The stuff will work just as well on all other openings you call out. Just paint to match if you so desire, and screw it into place (or bolt). Cheap insurance, and guaranteed to work on critters (small bugs could still get it, but what are you gonna do).
Get a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth, and use either sheet metal screws, or nuts and bolts... and adhere a sheet of the stuff to the large bottom hole. If you dont know what hardware cloth is...
So just use the AUX FUEL setting on your machine as intended. The fuel accessories you will need can be found here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?171024-Generator-AUX-fuel-connections
You will just need the fuel line, and the 2" bung adapter... and you should be good to go! It...
Excellent post. Thank you.
When I get around to it, this sounds like a worthwhile mod to my 802. If for nothing else than to scratch my mechanical redundancy itch.
When these things run properly, you will be surprised how confident you can become in them. Consider this good foundational troubleshooting work, which you will build said confidence upon. Once someone actually puts some elbow grease time in, a completely new appreciation of the machines comes...
If you get 5 minutes of run time consistently... unhook the rigid fuel line from the pump, and rig a temporary line up to dump fuel into a canister (or multiple canisters so you can shuttle fuel back to your tank, while not letting it leak everywhere). If the fuel stops flowing after 5...
You could have debris blocking the inlet in the tank, restricting flow to the pump. That would also cause it to warm up (and allow for fuel to flow again initially until the blockage is sucked back to the point of exit again).
And the OEM handle is fine, if you like annoying yourself. It tightens extremely well (not efficiently, mind you), and is nonconductive. If you want one for machine completeness sake, I might have an extra available.
How do you intend on using the machine? Are you hard wiring it, or using a removable generator cord? You could always just mount a 50A NEMA locking box onto the side of the machine, and run the wires in to the lugs, and just install them once. No need to even worry about the tool after that!
Is your pump the square style, or the round style? Have you changed the fuel filter on this machine? Or run any sort of fuel system cleaner (Seafoam, etc) through the set? How about the fuel tank... has it been drained and cleaned? Your pump might be fine... you could have a clogged fuel system...
