On a stock vehicle probably not a huge deal, but on a wheeler let's say you broke your rear driveshaft and needed to remove it to get off the trail. With a slip yoke you couldn't because the gear oil in the transfer case would come out. With a fixed yoke the case id sealed so removing the shaft...
Yes, I tig welded the shifters back together. The round handles were welded by JB Fab and those were mig welded.
Mine came with a slip yoke originally but I swapped it for a fixed yoke the first time I had the transmission and transfer case out.
I got the transfer case back in despite the blistering heat this weekend (106 degrees yesterday). I cut the 1 1/2" off the shifters, turned them 90 degrees and tig welded them back on. I had to heat up the handles and bend them as well to make everything fit. When I went to crank the truck the...
I still haven't gotten the 205 back in. I'm going to have to do some cutting and welding on the twin sticks to make them work. JB Fab said they hadn't seen a shifter like mine before.
I decided, for now, that I'm going to put the stock 205 back in. If I want to swap the LoMax in later I'll swap the transmission at the same time.
So today I installed twin stick shift rails in the stock 205 and all new gaskets and seals. I'm going to paint it and try and get it back in...
Another complication . . . I tried to install my JB Fabrication twin stick shifters and they won't work, at least not without some serious modifications. I'm guessing it has something to do with my oddball setup. JB Fab has been good about responding to my questions so hopefully we can come up...
From Offroad Design . . . it's called the Front Upper Shackle Hanger (or FUSH) for short . . . Offroad Design - Chevy GM Front Heavy Duty Shackle Hanger
I took some measurements today . . .
The length of the stock (long) 205 input shaft is 3.875"
The LoMax (short) input shaft is 1.65" long
The adapter is 4" thick
I measured 1.675" from the end of the transmission output shaft to the face of the adapter, meaning that the stock shaft has...
I called JB Conversions and they don't have anymore of the long input shafts. 86M1028 is right, the only option is to put a longer output shaft in the Turbo 400.
I haven't decided how I'm going to proceed yet. I don't want to do anything with the 400 that's in the truck now. I do have another...
Well I should have figured out a way to verify this before believing something I read on the internet. My 205 has the long input shaft. Now I have a built LoMax with a short shaft that I can't use! Sucks.
I installed a receiver hitch today. I bought the tube from Northern Tools, rosette welded it from the top and around the perimeter and braced it with some 1 1/2" DOM. I'm not planning on towing anything too heavy so I think it will work fine.
We'll despite my frustration with the 12-bolt wheels I do have good things to say about Trailworthy Fab. I got in touch with them today to let them know one of the wheels was out of round . . . they asked some questions and when they were satisfied that the problem was indeed with the wheel they...
I don't know. I've gone through 11 wheels (used, not the new ones from Trailworthy), choosing the best and that's what I'm running now. Honestly, if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't do the Hummer wheels again . . . just too many issues.
Here's how she sits with the new rear suspension setup. It definitely drives better now. I think once the bed is back on it's gonna be just about right.
One of the new 12-bolts that I ordered from Trailworthy Fab was just as out-of-round (if not more) than the one I wanted to replace. Fortunately, I ordered two wheels and the 2nd was a little better. I got it mounted up today . . .
