Got in a bit of a mess - winch jammed

Got her out. I could turn the winch driveshaft with a large screwdriver in the U joint. Lined up the holes and swapped the shear pin. Then I could un-spool under power and get rid of the tension on the winch line. So much easier in day light! However: The clutch does not disengage. The lever...

Got in a bit of a mess - winch jammed

HAD to try to get through a mud hole. Got stuck. Winched myself out without issues. Trying to get back to the road I got stuck again, in an awkward spot with nothing to hook to that was in line with the truck. Awkward pull at an angle of about 40 degrees - I know better, but there was no other...

1966 deuce trying to start after 17 years of slumber

"Moving" might not be good enough for the fuel shutoff. It is a bit of a bugg** because it can look as if it were working , but isn't. Maybe this helps: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?103256-M35A2-no-fuel-at-injectors...

    Intake flame heater delete

For small lengths of DOT air line I go to my local truck stop/truck repair shop. If I do not need yards of the stuff they just give me some cutoffs to make me go away. It is so cheap that it is not worth their time and printer paper to print an invoice.

LDT 465 Multifuel. Andy3's Broken Camshaft

The breadth and depth of knowledge on this site never ceases to amaze me. Coroner oddshot is doing a rather thorough autopsy and I enjoy watching it!

    Successful M35A2C recovery!

Looks like a former National Guard truck (oval markings on bumper). Also I see a muffler. She's a twin to mine (also M35A2C) but my winch was added by the military at some point (dataplate says wo/w). They added tailgate steps as bumper steps, so someone cared for that truck at some time. These...

    Air stop light switch issue

Air stop light switch - NAPA replacement Had bad luck with original military air stop light switches. They range in price from $45 upwards. Checked with NAPA and purchased 036036 S14 stop light switch. It is an ugly white plastic contraption, but for $16 I am not looking back. Made two...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Wrestled with the pipe plug on the thermostat housing. Finally got it to move. Threaded in a reducer bushing and threaded a brass thermocouple ("thermostat" for the ether kit) into that. Promptly overtorqued and broke the threaded brass part off the hex headed thermostat. Could not get a grip on...

    Intake flame heater delete

I found that the cheapo metric M20 plug is cast aluminum (used as oil drain plug for cars). So, I drilled a hole right through it with an 11/32 drill and tapped it with an 1/8-27 NPT tap. That fits the ether injector perfectly. That way, I did not have to drill/tap the intake elbow and did not...

    Intake flame heater delete

I am deleting my flame heater right now. I can confirm that, on the intake, you need an M20 and an M18 plug. If you get hold of one of the original military ether conversion kits, these plugs are included. Plugging the fuel supply port at the bottom of the forward-facing surface of the...

Air pressure brake light switch - cracked

Finally fixed the 3/8 trailer service line connection to the air pack with assorted flare thread fittings. When I unplugged the brake light switch wires, the plastic rear cover started to disintegrate. Note the hairline cracks on the "good" side as well. I suspect that in the near future, the...

    My Deuce!

Ohhhh...you got DEUCEFACE! Symptoms are ear-to-ear, persistent grin that won't go away while near the truck. There is no known cure. Maybe sipping Diesel in small quantities, or re-doing axle seals more than three times in a week, but the results are inconclusive. At least you found the right...

    Blow-by assessment - opinions needed!

Loosened the compressor belt all the way and ran engine. No difference in the blowby. Thanks for the differential diagnosis. When I hold the (gloved) hand half an inch about the oil filler opening I can feel the pulsating of the gases coming out. Piston ring/valve issue? I am planning to...

    Blow-by assessment - opinions needed!

Nope, no noticeable oil consumption. It oozes a little oil that the fan blows around and I am still not sure where it comes from. I suspect the air compressor gasket. I cleaned everything but cannot find it on idle or running the engine up without load. Oils when under load but I have not yet...

    Blow-by assessment - opinions needed!

Did some PMCS on the truck today. It always had noticeable blow-by from the slobber tube. I am about to rip the valve covers off and adjust the valves and I thought I post a little video here to get opinions as to whether this is normal, questionable or downright bad. Engine is a LD-465 with a...

    Fuel Injector Issue-LDT 465

I know it is an older thread - size appears to be 012 or 013, depending upon the pump.
