A2 vs A3 crashed in the driveway-the aftermath

Condolences. Never fun. Glad that only metal and egos got hurt.

1952 M35 Gasser repair and build

I can tell you that this is the boarding ladder for the CCKW. It has six treads and is 66 1/2 inches long. The data plate of the MX-3391G aluminum ladder also has a DSA number. These numbers were used from 1962 to 1977, Dr. Google says. Makes sense; CCKWs saw a long service, often overseas. I...

    Got a Deuce! '62 M35A1

    I could not resist.

    M47 Dump Project Is Home

Man, is that engine QUIET! It sounds silky-smooth, compared to a cold start on a multifuel.

Runs wide open on start up!

Can't help but give kudos to USMCWARWAGON, the "newbie" Deuce owner who enthusiastically tears into the hydraulic head within minutes of owning his first deuce. That is a place where some grown men fear to tread! I see a lot of optimism! :grd:

    Ether Start System

I second that. There is one wire you need to run to the newly installed coolant thermostat (so the solenoid does not fire unless the coolant is cold enough) and the dash switch and wiring are re-purposed. Kit comes with new dash plate.

Talk me into, or talk me out of this deuce.

Oh, it is still under warranty, then! :naner: The hour meter and mileage are a hint at best. The gauges get swapped too often to be reliable indicators. In your case, the average speed from mileage and hours would have been under 3mph over the life of the truck. Impossible? No. An insane amount...

Why don't the brake drums have jacking bolts?

Good thought, actually. The aircooled VW flat fours have a serviceable oil strainer. The old engines had an oil drain plug in the center of the lid that holds that strainer in. Guess what people did! They took the drain plug out, drained the oil, put the plug back in and re-filled the oil...

    Deuce projects.

:goodjob: Are you sure you found "ALL" the zerks? :-PThere are some amazing ones on this truck that you probably won't find without the lubrication order. I think - and someone will correct me - that there are 142 zerks on a deuce w/w. I have not greased the one for the pintle hitch and I have...

    Deuce transfer case value?

Extra as in OEM new, as in fresh overhaul with tags in a crate or a loose takeout in unknown condition sliding around in the back of the truck before you got it? Big difference. Some info and pics would probably help.

Technical Assistance needed for non-starting Deuce (76 degreess outside)

Maybe check out this thread as a starting point: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?123904-Deuce-wont-start-without-ether Maybe the "near-new" hydraulic head is not accurately timed: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?80138-No-idle-but-runs-at-1400

Other injection pump on the Multifuel engine?

Has anyone replaced the stock American Bosch injection pump with an off-the-shelf alternative? I know for myself to not mess with the injection system too much; I see it as a finely balanced system between the injectors and the pump. I am just wondering whether another mechanical diesel...

    Deuce load?

There is no doubt that the M35s were designed and built at a time where a larger margin was added to carrying capacity. Anyone driving current OTR or dump/offroad trucks will tell you that this era has passed (and "stock" trucks ordered without extra this and extra that for added capacity are at...

    m35a2 advice needed

Yes, it is possible. The military thought it would be better to have two soldiers operating it. Alone, you need to be as smart or smarter than two soldiers. Do not even touch the winch until you have read and understood how it works and what the (simple) controls do. Try the controls with the...

    M47 Dump Project Is Home

OD_coyote, thanks for starting this build thread! This truck is well worth restoring. I am a sucker for threads with lots of pictures and weekly updates (no pressure).

    Multi-fuel engines.

Your engine started out as an LD and had the turbo kit (clean air kit) added at a later date. This is common. Your engine block is a "TD" thick deck block, which, amongst other things, has a stronger, more warp-resistant surface where the cylinder heads sit. All of this is desirable; the actual...

Motor nearly cutting out while driving.

Easy things first. I second starting with what the inside of the tank looks like (gunk?). Then fuel flow from the tank. In tank pump working? Fuel flow to the primary filter? Fuel flow to the secondary filters? Is the fuel shutoff on the injection pump all the way open (you need to work the...

Bouncing/teeter tottering suspension bounce depending on the road

On some stretches of asphalt road around here, going only 40 mph on regular tire pressure, can make the rear end "jump" sideways so much that I have to be quick on the steering wheel to catch the truck that is now pointing towards the ditch or into oncoming traffic. My truck is singled out on...

    Sprag modification

No, Rio kit is a pair of speedos, Ray Ban shades and plenty of sun block! Carnival is a good time to travel there.

Installing New Bows & Cover on M-35A2C

The Canadian version of the M35 has a carrier rack over the cab roof for exactly that purpose. If you want to build yourself one, sketches with measurements are available...ok...I did a search....here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?101939-CDN-MLVW-Roof-Rack-M35-related
