So a main symptom is hunting at idle.
Is the fuel turned up and/or the FDC bypassed? If so, was the droop screw adjusted as well? If not, it could/would affect starting and idling.
Then there is the governor. It sits underneath the FDC. I do not know much about it, other than that it is a...
My diesel injection guy is currently r&r my injectors. He mentioned that, within reason, the exact pop-off pressure is less important than the injectors opening at the same pressure (balance). Higher pop off pressure means better spray pattern and as more precise "injection window" for injection...
Trying to avoid a flamed discussion here. It is a little bit like having cheap carpet installed...the labour is exactly the same. It depends what one wants. If the goal is just to have a running truck, a good takeout is probably the most cost-effective way.
One needs to compare apples to...
Have you checked the jack shaft bolts (short drive shaft between tranny and transfer case)? They have a tendency to come loose and make all sorts of strange noise at lower shaft rpm.
My injectors have an orange rubber ring seal that seems to serve as a dust cover between the injector and the injector port in the head. They are not shown in the TM (TM 9-2815-210-34-2-2).
Are they needed and where can I get them?
Who has the injector copper crush gaskets and/or what size are...
I can't help you on the thread type and pitch. I seem to remember that it was nothing special, at least not on the aftermarket replacement cable I installed. Maybe that pic helps:

Pulled the injectors today and adjusted valve lash. Intakes were tight throughout. Definitely not good. Went with 0.15 intake (as per Jatonka) and 0.25 exhaust. #5 and #6 exhaust were rather loose. Definitely feel good that valve lash is adjusted.
Wanted to do compression test with my fancy...
You probably already saw this thread about steering box seals: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?105162-M35-steering-box-seals
Strong suggestion is to either leave the box alone and use cornhead grease (0 or 00 semi-liquid grease) or to take it out and do a full rebuild, not just seals.
Thanks for the input! I loosened the injector lines on idle, one by one, and there is no stumble or rpm change when loosening #1. I have a set of new nozzles on the shelf. Time to pull all six injectors, have the nozzles changed and the injectors pop tested and balanced.
Fuel filters are...
Background, before today: Truck ran very well. Startup at first couple of turns, good power, some smoke when you lean into it (pump is turned up a bit). Unspectacular pre-trip. No oil in coolant or coolant in oil.
Today:
Cranked for a few seconds before it caught. I let it warm up and drove it...
I find it amazing that road grime, caked with grease, is able to lock up a drivetrain with a low gear ratio reverse gear, powered by a 140hp engine. I'd have thought the chunks of caked whatever would be sheared right off the drum. Live and learn.
It is 1/4 IPS/NPT threads at the block. Passenger side rear of the block; you may have to remove the air filter bucket, it is tight there.
Common problem is a mis-matched gauge and sender unit. There are 60 and 120 psi gauges and sender units and they show wonky pressures when interchanged. Some...
Here is what I was seeing: You could flat-tow the Deuce that has tranny issues with the hood-less deuce that runs. Think of the good things about that! Less chance for overheating (no hood), and you immediately see any engine leaks developing. Oh, keep the windshield closed.
J- pipe mod on the...
Had a similar issue. Backed bottom adjusters up all the way. Adjusted top for slight drum drag. Drove truck. Re-adjusted to specs. Not sure what the issue was. Maybe aftermarket brake shoes not exactly matching. Next step would have been pulling drums again to see if shoe slipped off adjuster.
"Dirt" - i.e. top soil, organic layer with a bit of sand etc. - if not obviously wet, you should run out of room before you run out of carrying capacity. With 5 yards loaded, the Deuce looks visibly full, with a mound in the middle and halfway to 2/3 up the sides, and you will be at or around...
