    Adding a winch

Murphy's Law of self recovery winches, by cattlerepairman: 1) Any winch cable is at least three feet too short to reach the right anchor point Corollary to 1) If the winch cable is of sufficient length, the pull angle is out of spec 2) If the winch is equipped with a shear pin, it will break...

    Adding a winch

I have plenty of experience with hydraulic winches and some with electric ones. My own PTO winch on my truck still makes me anxious whenever I operate it. Spooling cable is easy - operating the PTO winch safely is not. The beefy PTO winch looks great on the truck and it belongs there. If I had...

    Deuce Power steering question

Just go to www.lmgtfy.com (L et M e G oogle T hat F or You - LMGTFY) and go through the paces. The web site produces a link for this particular search that you can share. The site is meant for the passive-aggressive people that do a search in order to stick it to someone that they could...

    Deuce Power steering question

Ok, I will get you started. Get a comfy place to read...this will take a while! No offence, but this link will, in addition to your power steering info, show what to type into Google to get steelsoldiers site results: http://bit.ly/1z02zp5

    M35A2 Battery Cable Size(s) & Lengths...

I just replaced mine and, indeed, used 2/0 welding cable which sells here for about $5 per foot. It is a good time to add a battery cutoff switch, if you do not have one, yet. 8ft should be plenty. I used the hammer-on copper lugs for the ends and it worked just fine. I understand that some...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Tucked her away for the winter. Heated warehouse. I'll miss her. I can sneak in on weekends and start her up and operate the brakes. I can fill the warehouse with smoke but need to shut off when the fire alarm triggers! :-)

What did you do to your deuce this week?

So does mine, more so when it is cold. Normal, I'd say. Congrats on your leak fixing. I have a couple of seeping pinion seals and the middle and front axle need to be gone through. Very light seep, only after sitting for a week or so. Did not instill the sense of urgency to rip it all apart...

    First Deuce Winter Experience

No, but I remember reading that one of the guys measured solargizer output and the difference between the solar panel being exposed directly to sun light as opposed to being behind glass (windshield) was huge, I want to say 50%.

Spring 2015 to-do list for the Deuce

You have a nice and clean truck! You need to add "flip front licence plate upside down" to the list!

    Feeler for M35A2 Hard Tops

I am from the "ragtop" fraction. I would seriously consider your hard top, if it looked like the original and had a price point that is significantly more sane than what people are asking for surplus ones. Great idea and I wish you success with the prototype!

    Pressure gauge port or????

Fuel filters. Try the -10 Technical Manual (TM). It is good to read the operator level TM at least.

Got in a bit of a mess - winch jammed

My ex-service OCD does not allow me to leave winch cable criss-crossed for long periods of time. Re-wound all winch cable after cleaning and spraying with cable lube and hammering the first layer tightly into place. Winch works flawlessly under load (winched truck up a hill) and winch clutch...

Got in a bit of a mess - winch jammed

Update: I read a LOT of winch repair and rebuild thread information. Fascinating. I recommend THIS thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?80417-Winch-Teardown-Q I felt that the most likely two issues with my winch clutch no longer dis-engaging were either a twisted clutch shaft or...

    M35a2 dilemma

The Canadian military used these M135 until the 1980'. They are becoming somewhat rarer as many that were kept running by private owners were subsequently sold and "used up" by owners down the line. The parts train is also slowly drying up, from what I can see. It seems that many vendors simply...

fuel in my oil/oil pressure low

The HH O-rings are Viton 227 and 230 and the little 013 (or 012; depending on your shutoff rod)

    Warped drums

Make sure it is indeed the drum itself and not the mounting surface. You can always go to a place that turns truck brake drums and have them check runout on yours. Has your truck always vibrated that way? The drums are quite massive, but if Soldier A dropped the truck onto the drum(s), they...

fuel in my oil/oil pressure low

There are a few reasons why this could happen, such as a leaking flame heater nozzle, the O-rings in the hydraulic head, the fuel density compensator. Search for "Deuce making oil" to get started. If you need help with searching, look at this: http://bit.ly/1wfnG4i

Got in a bit of a mess - winch jammed

Yes - MV friend. I am the only one close by with a tandem axle truck and a winch that stands a chance to snatch block him out of trouble!

Got in a bit of a mess - winch jammed

Here you go. Owned by the local gas station guy I think it is 1954. V-8 Rolls Royce gas engine (good that the guy owns a gas station!). Runs well but needs a bit of TLC. It leaks hydraulic fluid (has marginal brakes), there is water in one of the headlights. Radiator weeps when hot (I think that...
