    Hissing sound, trans related?

My 6.2 diesel USAF Suburban started doing the exact same sound yesterday leaving work. The 1-2 shift usually happens about 8-15 mph. It didn't yesterday. The engine started to wind out, I heard the hissing and then at 22 mph it went to second and at 28 mph it went to third. I am very...

    towing a m101a2 question m1009

Yep, I did lay out a doomsday possible application. However, I have been in his part of the country before. Some parking lots or fuel stations are several feet higher than the edge of the road and require a tight turn to get in. Water drainage. Houston is the same way. I also read a thread...

how to test and i find these.. not sure what there called

Look mighty mouse. O'riellys couldn't find the darn part anywhere in the system with the part number in my hand. I spent 30 minutes with those yahoo's a few weeks ago. NAPA doesn't have a store in my town and Amazon was cheapest. With the price increase though and shipping. The retail store...

ACDelco 10154649 Switch Assembly They are up to $24.99 now. Sorry about the big print above. I just went to my orders on there and copy pasted what I ordered.

    towing a m101a2 question m1009

Yes it will work. However, since your new pintle is a bolt on, it won't swivel. No big deal for the highway you might think. However, what about pulling into a fuel stop with a few feet of elevation change and a tight turn to miss that idiot who didn't see you while they just drove right in...

how to test and i find these.. not sure what there called

The fast idle really does make a good bit of difference on cold starts. We have been down in the 24-28° range the last two mornings here. The Blue Bomber started up and ran great yesterday with the fast idle engaged. This morning I had my son do it while I was feeding the horses. He didn't...

how to test and i find these.. not sure what there called

Fast idle soleniod. The green wire that plugs into it is spliced in with the cold advance solenoid green wire. Both get there power from the cold advance/fast idle switch. That switch is located on the outside rear of the passenger side cylinder head. It really is just as much of a sensor...

Figuring out new sound...here we go...LOL.

We were 24° here this morning. The Blue Bomber took about 5 seconds of cranking to start and didn't really make any loud clanking. The M1009 fired up instantly as usual and had real loud clanking like you describe. I KNOW the M1009 has a working cold advance and functioning glow plug...

    My ignition is sticking.

It could also be the rod going from the key down the column to the actual switch. My USAF Suburban had the "two hands and snap a fingernail" effort to turn the key in the cold. I swapped out key cylinders and it didn't help. Middle or lower column problem. Yours could very well be just the...

    Electrical Issues from a Newbie

Sounds like you got a fan and blower from a truck with A/C. Non a/c fans are different. The low coolant light sensor is on the passenger side of the radiator. Unplug the wire, clean the plug and terminal then put it back together. They all flicker it seems. New senders are pretty cheap too.

5th Semi-Annual Texas Military Vehicle Rally

G company hasn't been invited to the Rally unless I am reading things wrong. The link to them was posted to give somebody information about a re-enactment group in the area.

6.2 running ruff at idle and under rpm

I see this is your first post, so welcome to the fun! Now, for your problem. Diesels are simple. They have no valves to control air flow which means if the air filter isn't clogged and the exhaust doesn't have a fat rat living in it. Air is normally not the problem. That just leaves fuel and...

    return lines

Badger Diesel sells kits of the return hoses. End caps for the back injectors. No more little bitty clamps needed either. I bought a set from them and then ordered a bunch of line just to keep as spares. Maybe $30 total with shipping for 3 or 4 kits.

    Electrical Issues from a Newbie

The flashers and the brake lights are the same bulb. All Chevy trucks of that body style have it so brakes take precident over flashers. Think about it from the view point of the person right on your bumper. Follow the directions given above. Read, study and learn the -20 troubleshooting...

    6.2 White Smoke

White fuel smelling smoke on start up is normally associated with glow plugs not heating enough, not being on long enough or just not all working. Have you check out your plugs and isolated the smoke to a single side? We were at 38° Tuesday morning. I fired up the M1009 and not a bit of...

M1009 as rugged reliable transportation candidate

I would suggest doing as Wallew wrote. Use his source or anybody you want. Find a truck built like you think you want. Then drive and try it out at work. While looking for another truck to be a back up as you do the maintenance that is going to be required on the first truck. Reading your...

    Trans Fill tube seal replacement...

Yep, do it from behind the transfer case. Use locking extensions if you can because once you break that bolt free, all your extensions and socket could go flying.

5th Semi-Annual Texas Military Vehicle Rally

They show up at the Temple Air show every May and do Vietnam era stuff. At least every year since 2008 that I know of. I was with the same guys in the back of a M113 at the Wings over Houston show in 2009 when Ken let me run the .50 Cal for the event. That was another Vietnam era thing...

Electrical problem with m1009 Please help!

Green wire is what the factory harness had at the glow plugs. Orange wire up at the relay. One big orange wire for each side of the engine. You can't miss them once you start looking.
