    6.5 L engine turbo?

You've really got a lot to read about. I'd highly suggest reading the Technical Manuals for the HMMWV (TMs). You can find most of them here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?119-Present-Conflict-Vehicles-TMs Reading the Operator's Manual is going to be a must. It has maintenance...

    6.5 L engine turbo?

Your engine may be a 6.5L, but it is certainly not turbocharged. As standard equipment from the military throughout the years, there are basically four different engine setups you could have: 6.2L, 6.5L, 6.5L detuned to 6.2L power output, and 6.5L turbocharged. Looking at the way equipment is...

    Fire.....well amost

HMMWVs do have a tail-mounted support bracket on the starter. Two versions, in fact. One is a straight slot and the newer version is more of a J-hook to help support the alternator while you install it. Sermis, did you have this rear bracket installed?

    Fire.....well amost

...or this. I didn't think about it, but also check the grounds going from the engine and alternator to the main body harness/battery box. If those failed, it could have flowed energy from the engine bay through your brake lines. You're seeing first-hand why electrical diagnostics can be tough.

    Fire.....well amost

Exciting! ...in a really awful way. I can't really answer exactly where it happened, but it seems clear to me that a positive wire short-circuited to your hydraulic brake line. The brake line can easily contact chassis ground and it's likely its normal condition, so as soon as one of the...

What does the Trans Kick down solenoid do?

A kickdown switch is a switch that is trigged when you push the accelerator pedal to full throttle. In most cars, this would trigger the transmission to shift down to make use of that extra power you're producing. In the HMMWV< this also temporarily shuts off the cooling fan. Without checking...

    Security

I personally had the same problem, but at least I figured it out on my own. To be fair, I didn't have a transmission installed, so I wasn't concerned about what position the gear shifter was in...

HMMWV Cargo Stowage Fixed Rear Door

So I first saw these in one of the army intructional videos, but later did some digging on ebay and saw a few of these for sale: Anybody have a part number for these, or perhaps an MWO to modify a standard fixed door to this? If I had to guess on how it's assembled, it looks like they've...

    Telephone Radio Patch

Nice. Also as dumb luck has it, I have the main unit of a GRA-39 sitting in my closet. It's way overkill for my intended function-and I haven't done the research yet to see if it would even properly transmit the necessary tones to the radio-but it has all of the physical connections needed to...

    Telephone Radio Patch

Do you have something to adapt a DTMF panel on an older military radio, or are you just using an amateur radio with a built-in DTMF panel?

    Telephone Radio Patch

I'm looking to make use of some older amateur radio tech... Once upon a time, before cell phones, I've heard (not really old enough to have used these) that telephone system patches were commonplace, allowing you to use an HF or VHF transceiver to communicate with another VHF/HF transceiver...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

If they operate full-swing, remain mostly parallel to each other through their entire travel, and always stop at the same spot, then nothing is functionally wrong with them...just the way they setup the linkage is a bit odd. If it doesn't bother you while driving, I'd personally leave it be and...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Y'know, I just noticed that your wipers are parked on the left, but mine and all the others I've seen are parked on the right.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Neat idea. It'd be pretty weird riding back there in that seat with the fixed door and troop seat back against your side....but not impossible. I figured that I might use my rear seats some day with the fixed door and troop seats removed in order to seat four while doing some off-roading...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Just what I ended up doing. Every pawn shop was closed today and nobody on Craigslist replied back, so I found one tool rental place that was open an had a transmission jack. $52 later, I'm back in business. Transmission is completely secured to the frame. I thought I was going to put the...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Much progress on the transmission today. Sealed and bolted the NP242 and adapter to my 4L80E, put together a new speedometer adapter, and prepped everything to be lifted in. Unfortunately, my lift has failed me and is leaving me a few inches short of target... I now need to either find...

    4l80 internal harness

I'm not 100% sure it's correct, but you're looking at the exact same harness on Amazon that I decided I'd be buying if my trans turned out to need one. So, I supposed you can say I'm confident enough that I'd have chosen to spend my money on it. Perhaps that's 99%?

    4l80 internal harness

I can't speak for quality, but those Rostra harnesses should fit just fine. They're made for ALL 4L80E transmissions beyond a certain early model year. If you have the coolant lines that are spacer farther apart, you can guarantee that it will work out fine.

    TM Covering Transmission/T-Case Installation?

Well, look at that... I've been looking intermittantly for days before asking, and now that I've asked, I answered my own question. I figured that the CUCV had the same drivetrain setup for the most part, so I started to look through the CUCV TMs and saw their -34 TM...and then realized I had...

    TM Covering Transmission/T-Case Installation?

So I've dug through the TMs and it feels like I'm just overlooking something...I can't find a TM that actually walks through the procedure for removal and installation of the transfer case and the transmission (but did find a section that covers the adapter between the two). While I've got the...
