    TH400 modulator installation help

You are correct. The vacuum just has to do with shifting. The transmission should still move the truck in forward and reverse. If I am reading this correctly. You drove the truck, pulled the modulator, put a new one in and now the truck won't go forward. Nothing else was done at the same...

    fuel problems. please help!!!

The die is a great way fo finding fuel leaks. However, he seems to maybe have an air leak in his fuel lines. Not the same thing. Air molecules are smaller than fuel molecules. That means air will fit through a small hole that diesel won't. Since the line from the lift pump back to the tank...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Another month and more stuff done. Rebuilt starter, new rear battery, new battery cables, rebuilt speedometer so it actaully shows how fast I am going and doesn't bounce anymore. Cleaned up all the connections on the gauge panel so all the lights actually work now. Fixed the fuel sender wire...

    Hex Head Plugs

Yep, just get any 3/8" bolt and weld a nut on it. Or put a pair of nuts on it to jamb against each other. Then stick the head of the bolt in the plug and put a wrench on the nut to remove.

    Rolling in Park

Start with the adjustment. It might be a good idea to pull the linkage all the way off. That way you can cycle the transmission through the gears and put it all the way in park where the detent centers it in park. Get out from under the truck and try pushing it. If it works like it should...

    Engine Noise

The flywheel on automatic transmission engines are called flex plates. Because they do flex. I replied a few post up a week or so ago to check the vacuum line for the transmission. I had zip tied mine to the filler tube because for the last 3 months every now and then. I would get a metalic...

    waiting for the tow truck

Head gasket? Pull your radiator cap while the engine is running. Does it seem to have pressure coming out with the coolant cold? Are you using coolant? White smoke after start up is normally a sign of coolant in the combustion chamber. Of course, a real bad one will leave a white cloud...

    Hello....

The truck is a 12V Chevy except for the starting system, glow plug power supply and slave system (jump start). The 12V part of the truck has to tell the 24V starting system to start when you turn the key. There is a relay under the dash that closes on the 24V side when the 12V from the...

    Electrical outlet, rear bumper.

No it doesn't make sense. However, all true design military vehicles such as the M35, M37, etc... Have wierd things happen if a ground is not good. Take the 4 bulb bucket tail lights on your 101. If you unplug all but one light power wire. Then undo the ground bolts at the back. Chances are a...

    Hello....

Prices are hard to say because each of us is willing to spend a different amount for something. Based on my experiences and those of others here that have been written about. Expect to do the following: Rebuild or replace at least one alternator Glow plugs will need replaced Maybe glow...

    Electrical outlet, rear bumper.

If you look real close at the rubber on the plug, you will see little letters next to the pins. Here is what the pins do: A=wire 24 B=wire 22/460 C= wire 24 D=wire 90 ground E=wire 21 F=wire 23 J=wire 22/461 Here is a listing of what the wire numbers mean: M-SERIES VEHICLES CIRCUIT NUMBERS

    Battery disconnect switch

Remove any of your battery terminals. Put an amp meter in to complete the circuit with everything turned off. If you are showing anything besides 0, then something is still on. I would start by unplugging the white plug on the side of an alternator. Once the plug is off look at your meter...

    Battery disconnect switch

If you look at your truck. You will see the positive post of the back battery goes to the connection on the firewall. The negative for the back battery goes through the 2 gauge wire to the positive terminal on the front battery. Then you have the ground from the front battery. Follow that...

    M1008 or M35A2

The Green Iron Disease never rest. Just accept that, buy more stuff, save money, buy more stuff, repeat. Are you asking which is best? That really depends on your mission requirements. The M1008 and a M35A2 have about the same cruise speed on the open road. Just the M1008 will do burst a...

    Battery disconnect switch

I second the don't do it line of thought. My reasons are this. The 6.2 is probably the most depended on tight clean starting cirucit connections vehicle I have ever messed with. Adding more connections to come loose, corrode or break will not help you. Then there is the switch itself. Most...

    M1009 Speedometer Calibration

The inline gear box is just on the M1009. That way, all the gears for the other CUCV trucks are the same in the tcase. Because the M1009 has the 3.08:1 axles, it needs the convertor box. Thanks for posting what you found.

    Engine Noise

The metal vacuum line for the transmission will vibrate against the floor too. I zip tied mine to the transmission fill tube to keep that noise away.

Brake Pedal - Power Assist Issue

Wheel cylinder rebuilt kits are less than $5.00 each. OD Iron, Rapco, ABLinn and many other suppliers. New wheel cylinders are in the $25 each range. Way to cheap to drive with one leaking. Fix them all before you drive.

    M116A2 camper

One reason to change the hubs if not the entire axle is spare tires. Put 6 lug hubs that match the 1009 on there and that problem is gone. Another thing to think about is a pop up type design. Nice flat air foil shaped top for driving, raise the roof as much as you want for changing clothes...
