radio event - Frostfest Richmond VA Feb 5 2011

For those who are into military and ham radio, there is the Virginia Convention coming up, also known as Frostfest. It will be held Saturday Feb. 5th 2011 at the Showplace in Richmond, VA. It is a very big hamfest on the East Coast. For those into green radios, there are a few deals, but...

HEMAT vs. M345 vs. M1076 trailers

Need advise on a heavy trailer that would be towed primarily by a M916 tractor. Needs to be heavier than a 5-ton equipment trailer, like a M1061, but not a fifth-wheel hitch trailer. I came up with three possible choices, the older M345 10-ton flatbed, the HEMAT ammo trailer for the HEMTT, or...

Spring 2011 Rausch Creek rally - dates?

The Haspin thread reminded me of this - Is anyone interested in doing another Spring rally at Rausch Creek in PA? We did it early April last year, was wondering what dates for this upcoming one would work for you all.

Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

Just got back from taking the Extra Class license exam - passed with 90% score, so now my call sign is KI4JSC/AE. Plan to get a vanity call sign someday in the Spring when hopefully things look up on the job front.

Pictures of fifth wheel wrecker boom

Not really. Just curious about it's operation and what it is capable of. I can tell a lot about a tool and how it is best used just by looking at it. Some close up pics of the main beam and the rear "wiffle tree" area would be much appreciated.

Sorta. Here's some distant pics of the one rickyoday had.

Pictures of fifth wheel wrecker boom

Not sure if I am getting across what I am looking for. Looking for detailed pics of the wrecker boom that mounts directly to the fifth wheel hitch of tractors like the M818. rickyoday had one a while back, I think I have seen pics of one BKubu had as well, but not closeup.

    1971 M811 with SEORTM

I'd say, depending on condition of the truck and how it runs, $10K to $15K would be fair. A mobile metal shop is something that carries some value to the right company.

    What's high mileage for a M915A1

That's something to remember on all our trucks - just because the odometer says XX,XXX miles, doesn't mean that's in toto. Sometimes when the truck is rebuilt the odometer gets changed as well, so the clock starts from zero again. Granted, getting a lower odo number is good, but doesn't tell...

"Pretty Soldiers" come in handy....when you get your HET stuck.....

Sorry, Soni - but I think the hottie in this pic of yours still wins the beauty contest, by far. :)

I went junkyard diving yesterday in the M1009 and found some Jeeps!

The less complete tub is a military M38A1 tub, the other more complete jeep is a CJ-3B, the higher hood was to clear the then-new F-head engine. Worth a couple hundred in parts, easy. Buy them and save them for a future jeeper...

    Farmers Field

Would be good to save some of those trucks, but for some reason I feel is the type of guy who "collects" old stuff and never sells it, until he passes away and the family scraps it all.

will this winch work on an m37?

That's an MU-2 Braden winch, meant for the civvy trucks. The military one is the LU-4. The bolt holes do NOT line up, so your best bet is to just find the right type. My M37 had a civvy winch partly bolted, and partly WELDED, onto the frame rails, when the previous owner decided to put a...

    No more "Doughnut" Spare Tire!!!!

I doubt you worked on what he has in the barn - looks like a British-issued FV-432 APC.

    No more "Doughnut" Spare Tire!!!!

Great looking mod, Soni. Much more useful than the "donut", for the tire types you have on. Come to think of it, I've always hated "donut" non-full-size spare tires, on ANY vehicle. Quality work, as always.

    Crew Cab Navy M916 variant?

I saw the second pic before anything, it looked like it was hauling a Transformer movie prop or something, the third pic answered my questions. That's a neat truck - never seen one like it. Must be one of a few custom jobbies the Navy bought. Squids are weird creatures, they always get all...

    the General is almost ready

I was kidding - see the razz smiley at the end of my post? It looks like a great truck build. But you still need to get Jessica Simpson in a pair of Daisy Dukes on the hood.

    the General is almost ready

Sorry, but the 1969 Dodge Charger is still cooler looking in these colors. Epic Fail. :-P
