Okay, I have picked which truck I am going to do - and it's final. But first - a little history...
The M37 gun trucks in Vietnam came in two basic types - long box and short box. Bed length was the same, the "box" refers to the armor box on the truck. Short box trucks had the box take up the...
Forgive the stupid question - I don't have the manual for this truck, I wasn't sure if all trucks had the PTO installed, in case the user decided to install one in the field, or if only the w/w trucks did, like the deuces.
Anyone have a part # for the stock M37 PTO access cover?
If you remove the PTO from the transmission on the M37, in the process of converting a w/w to a wo/w truck, what would you replace it with? Is there a cover that goes back over the hole, and where would I get one of these covers?
Well, didn't want to do it, but in order to better fund the building of the gun truck project, I will soon be listing the M100 in the classifieds. Loved using it going back and forth to the junkyard and picking stuff up, but the money will better be used to help fund the armor and/or guns for...
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Bill. I think. I always know where you stand on my volunteer work - "Oh, Mike? Yeah, he's a great guy, he just won't be here on time."
Ordered the tires today (the local store couldn't order them), but they should be here early next week. Also, heading...
The M200 is a heavy trailer. The M37 can pull it empty, but loaded - WHEW! It has a load capacity of somewhere around 2-1/2 tons, I think that even if your power wagon can pull it, it would not stop safely.
Spent a few more hours of the truck. Here's the front winch, for those who INSIST I keep it on here, here's a close up view. IT'S NOT FOR THE M37, it's for the civvy power wagon. See how the original owner welded the winch brackets on because the bolt holes didn't line up? Now the confines...
These couple spare parts came in the M37 I bought, they were loose in the bed. One looks like a clutch fork of some sort. The other is about 4 feet long, with metal pulley-looking ends, the pole between them is fiberglass. Not sure if this is some sorta weird accessory.
Any clues?
Otto and Mr. Nice are no longer viable - I will not copy the work of others, if someone built them already, I'm not gonna step on their toes. I'll figure out another candidate.
I spent some time outside this morning, removed the windows and all the side window hardware, it will be replaced...
Even though I was only able to spend a few hours on Saturday morning at the Carlisle truck show, I was fortunate to meet a great bunch of guys and their awesome trucks. My thanks go out to the Vietnam vets who served on these rigs in the Nam, hopefully I'll be able to invest more time in this...
Next work weekend is this coming one, August 13-15th, if anyone can help out, please PM CGarbee, he'll be coming up for the work. This may be the last one before the event, so if you can lend a hand clearing some trails and hacking some weeds, send him a PM. Thanks,
AND DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER!
Well, the hottest part of the summer is over, and I've been working odd jobs to make ends meet, but the project of the summer is getting weary of me putting her off. SO, to make a long story short, I will soon really be tearing into the gun truck project, and sharing it with you.
I started...
Thanks, majorhitt.
Anyone have a pic of the engine without the heater installed? Want to get an idea of correct coolant routing without the need for the heater....
Anyone have any really detailed pics of the M37 engine compartment? I'm a big fan of PrimePortal for military vehicle pics, but both M37s they have pictures of fail to have any pics of the engine at all...
One month to go, fellas! If you haven't registered on the main website for this event, please do so soon. Getting close - also, we have to plan one final weekend of trail maintenance, if anyone would like to help out, please volunteer. Hopefully we can get the last of it done prior to the event.
