That's pretty similar to the design of the factory tool I have seen pictures of in use on the John Deere factory floor in 1942 - only theirs had an adjustable spreader function and some kind of offset bar so you can use it with an overhead crane...
I am pretty much in the same solo boat for...
That'd be great if you could post up some pics and a little blurb on how to install a track solo - they are kinda like big snakes; start rolling it around and they just take on a mind of their own!
Thanks
Matt
Thanks Jim - I would love to chat about what we can help each other out with - I tried like the devil to get that machine in Oregon but by the time we got to the stage of negotiating a price he checked with his folks that ran the yard and his dad had scrapped the thing... I have some pictures of...
Thanks - those sound like driveline joints for the axles - these are little guys for the winch and crane pump - look almost like 1310 or 1350 series civy size but with the heavy truck mounting and bolt in caps... Anyhow I appreciate the look-see
Matt
Well - went and picked up Thing I the other day prior to heading out of town for another marine engine adventure...
I built a drop lunette eye bracket for the trailer and it's much happier with the 36" pintle hook height on the duece now...
Anyhow - SN 4JA836 is home... with a busted track...
I made it down to the truck one last time before heading to Alaska for 2 months...
I managed to put the missing rear cab support on, mount the inter-axle driveline which was rebuilt, and mount the overhauled hoist drum rollers on the boom...
Grabbed some mudflaps but need to make the...
Thanks Stuart - I appreciate the draft on the way home too! About halfway down 161 my tach decided to quit - I think the cable died and the wipers are hand operated like always so it made for a busy ride home - otherwise glad I could help and now we know a little more of what to expect when...
On the transfer case there is an air cylinder which shifts the sprag to work from forward to reverse - you should hear air releasing when going from 1st to reverse...
I was looking into converting mine into a selectable front wheel drive and welding up the sprag - might just go to a 900 series...
Ha ha it's on an island 700 miles away with no road access... I am reasonably sure he won't be attending...
He mentioned having to find a good mechanic and I bit my tongue... Kinda like BSA - proudly making mechanics out of men since the beginning of time!
I am not sure if he was aware of...
Gimpy - I measured the joints last night and was close: the bolt centerline spacing is 3.500" and the installed width across the outer edge of the caps is 4.375"
If you have anything of that size and style that'd be great - otherwise I will run these for now and change them down the line...
Yeah - at least 10 or 15 would be nice! You going to Covich? That's what I've been running in the duece - get it for free from the Highway boats... They use it for the little Kitty motors... 3508, 379 gensets...
I am debating running the older m-series korean era lights on the wrecker or...
Yep - It got big! Parallel parking is a challenge now - haven't quite learned the feel of where the back of the bed and how much stick out the boom has... especially since I drove it all of 100ft so far to get the out riggers on the other side!
I will have to measure it at home - IIRC they are about 3.5" across the caps... I will measure it and post the size tomorrow - no part numbers I know of; maybe cast on the body of the joint...
Thanks
Hung the power divider and stuffed 4 out riggers in her last wed... Need to pull the winch driveline and still need to figure out something with the t-case to divider shaft - got all the joints lubed up and free - took all the needles out and cleaned but the cups are a bit haggard...
Anyhow...
You should take a viscosity reading on the lube oil - I bet it's really not diluting much - never hurts just to change of course but might not be the dire need as imagined...
I replaced the master cylinder in the Duece and she has brakes again!
I also fixed the passenger step I managed to...
Power Divider...
Houston; we have a problem...
The only power divider we could find in the yard was used as a soil sampling device at some point... Had a rough landing and broke a fair bit of the CV shaft boot flange off the aluminum house...
Soooo, heli-arc to the rescue; a few bits of...
Hey guys - the reason for the trucks getting chopped is the same reason they are there in the first place - Jerry (Brad's partner and boss) runs a metal scrap business - if the trucks are bringing in more than scrap and county inspectors are not sniffing so hard nothing would get the gas axe...
