Finally got to drive the new combination.......
Yesterday afternoon, I finally got to take it for a spin and try the new combination.
With only 1.75 turns on the top screw, three clicks on the governor springs, the WIX 46664 filter and a thorough check of the modulator cable/throttle/throttle...
Adjustment procedure......
The complete cable adjustment procedure is in TM TM 9-2320-272-24-1 page 3-400 and 3-401
After adjusting my governor (3 clicks), then adjusting my idle back down followed by checking this cable adjustment, my shifts are night and day better; both in timing and...
I finally had enough of the military mud flaps wrapping themselves up in the tires-they are WAY too close to the tires, plain and simple.
So I picked up some 5" offset brackets and some Cummins accessory rigid mudflaps (on sale, I couldn't resist).
These ought to work worlds better.
My five flashing lights were cured by listening closely for air leaks, tightening a few fittings that had tiny leaks and finally the little brass pressure relief valve-that ended up being the culprit after all.
It just wouldn't hold 120PSI consistently enough.
Cheap and easy fix.
Hope yours is...
Well, I'll be darned.....
On a whim, I called Memphis Equipment and they had it in stock!
Totally forgot about those guys.
Super fair price ($20+ less than Oshkosh) and it'll ship tomorrow.
They're so close, the thing will be here BY the weekend I'm sure.
Hello all,
I searched as best I could and have come up pretty empty-handed, other than using a universal NAPA (or other brand) driveshaft inside the original housing.
But it concerns me about how well the transfer case end adapter stays put or adapts TO the universal replacement.
Does anyone...
Thank you for the exact page reference for the modulator cable adjustment!
That's my next step after the governor spring adjustment I did day before yesterday and it's subsequent/necessary throttle linkage adjustment.
WHICH, undoubtedly changes the cable's position in reference to...

Has it always had a 2000 rpm max? Or did it just start?
You don't want to go modifying your governor if there is something else going on.
If/when you do adjust the governor?

Yesterday, I did the air filter mod using the WIX 46664, as laid out by acme66 in another thread. Worked GREAT! Ought to flow a lot better than the original Donaldson.
Today, I adjusted my governor springs three clicks.
I used the alternator nut (NO sweat) and accessing the springs is no problem...
I was JUST perusing the "Today's Posts" and look what I found.......
I'll be darned.
Those Military Guys have come to the rescue again.
A drop-in kit with a NICE filter support/spacer wire!:

You can find the wire and how he (and I) used it in the YouTube video he made.
VERY simple and effective mod to support the smaller OD of the replacement filter.
I just installed the WIX 46664.
I used wire just like acme66 did and it fit GREAT!
It's monsoon season here so no driving impressions.
The moment I get some seat time, I'll report.
My old Donaldson was FAR from "bad" but it had a pronounced clean area where it "hides" under the...
