crap, I mis read your post. I understand the Brazos was civilian and had too have FMVSS. That's why I am curious to find the original contract for the FMTV program. I believe they were all built to the FMVSS. I am curious to see how it was worded in the contract.

I don't believe that to be true. The FMVSS is referred to in the TM's as the braking system was built to conform to the FMVSS. Also,
the law suit that originated between the Government and S&S states in the lawsuit the trucks were built to conform to the FMVSS as part of the orginal contract...
Anybody have a copy of the original contract that was used to specify the FMTV builds for the S&S trucks? Looking to see how the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) factored into the build.

An update on mine with 2.87's with 225hp.
Got the rear box mounted. Took the stock bed off ( -2200lbs ) and added the rear box (+4000 lbs) with the only real noticeable difference is how much better it rides. Speeds seem to be the same with the transmission adjusting shift points to accommodate...
Ok... having read a lot of the threads on lights and wiring i remembered somebody had suggested using a different ground then what the original lights used. I went directly to the frame and it seems that I now have blinkers and stop lights. It does mention that for running lights they needs to...
I actually am using the wires for the orginal tail lights but that shouldn't matter. Well, maybe I need to go explore it again to see if I was doing something wrong. Instructions are pretty simple so I am not sure what i did wrong.

Was wondering if anybody had converted to civilian tail lights on their truck? I realize the brake light and turnsignal are on the same circuit and am hoping to have separate the turn signals from the stop lights.

Wanted to post a pic down here showing where the truck is today. Finally got the box mounted and am moving forward. I also posted another picture in the newly formed camper section.
Thanks to all who have helped since getting the truck!

Been making progress on the truck slowly over the last few months. Indecision, pandemic and busy people had kept this thing moving slowly. Once I made the command decision to use the shot box and have it adapted things went fairly well. Measured 50 times and cut a few times. Fortunately had...
A couple things, The unfortunate thing about the CA DMV is that so many of their own people dont understand their own rules or know how to find the answers. CHP officers don't always know what they are enforcing or what they play in the role of registering vehicles. Its a confusing myriad of...
I think what a lot of people will say is that the more time you spend on the front end going through all the systems the less chance of a failure. Adding a smart supply of backup supplies to get you to a proper mechanic is prudent as well. Having said that, failures of computers and sensors will...
